(Shea Stadium, Qualcomm Stadium, Renovated Yankee Stadium) And even in 1996, which was clinched at Yankee Stadium, Games 3 through 5 were played in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, which has long since been demolished.
And, they have A-Rod so they are definitely cursed!

    Confession time:

After a brutal Mets loss I said that G*d hates the Mets at Shea Stadium. Whether he does or not I may never know, but I regret saying it.

    Goodbye Shea

Funny! One of our columnist at The PD used that line a couple months ago, and the sports editor got all these calls from readers! He didn't know the reference and went off on the copy desk for not catching the "error."

You'll all pardon me for double posting this...I had it up a few weeks ago, but I feel it appropriate to have it up again today....Goodbye Shea...Ill miss you...

There Used To Be A Ballpark
    Frank Sinatra
And there used to be a ballpark where the field was warm and green
And the people played their crazy game with a joy I'd never seen
And the air was such a wonder from the hot dogs and the beer
Yes, there used a ballpark right here

And there used to be rock candy and a great big fourth of july
With the fireworks exploding all across the summer sky
And the people watched in wonder, how they'd laugh and how they'd cheer
And there used to be a ballpark right here

Now the children try to find it
And they can't believe their eyes
`cause the old team just isn't playing
And the new team hardly tries

And the sky has got so cloudy
When it used to be so clear
And the summer went so quickly this year

Yes, there used to be a ballpark right here

This song was allegedly written about the Mets being the new team and the Brooklyn Dodgers being the old team. Ironically, it was written in 1973 when the Mets went on to win the pennant.

I knew there was a reason why I never liked Sinatra!

True enough. And you deserve a medal, my friend. Thanks for caring about our home. Too bad we can't pass the plate and scrounge up enough money to buy the Mets. I will stay with this thread!

But KBers' post is so predictable. In all the years I went to Shea, I saw countless fans dressed inappropriately (i.e. in gear from the team from the Bronx). Invariably, they would start up with the Met fans. Never once did I ever see a Met fan start trouble. The Y****ee fan would talk trash, and end up inciting a chant from the Met fans. Now here, even as our stadium is being demolished, they can't help themselves do it one last time.

I post over there in the YS threads. Go read them, I am always good naturedly courteous. I even appreciate the history of YS. Some of the work being done by the adult Y****ee fans is remarkable. Go check out Kaplanski's 3d model, it is breathtaking. But this guy is a microcosm of why we hate those ********. I have proposed saving a piece of YS, because I am a baseball fan. Not today. Not after I read that crap. Nuke that toilet. It was a toilet in 1973, which is why it was renovated, and their time overusing Shea as forced co-tenants hastened Shea's demise. When it reopened, YS was a 1970's architectural plastic disaster. It was visited by the most obnoxious, self absorbed, "fans" in sports. The upper deck at YS has been in a permanent cloud of marijuana smoke since 1978. So inadequate that they feel the need to lord it over Met fans to reassure themselves that they are such pretty girls. It will be quite a spectacle of rended garments, gnashing of teeth, and wailing when they bring down that dump. I cannot wait.

    Goodbye Shea. Hello New Shea.

OK, first off, I am sorry to report that I do NOT have any photos of the actual toppling of the final remnants of Shea. My apologies - I was stupidly repositioning myself for a better vantage point when I heard a noise from the crowd. I looked up and watched as the ramps were pulled down. So, while I did witness it, I don't have the shots to prove it. My before and after shots will have to do for now. I'm sure others will fill in the gaps shortly.

Classy job by Breeze writing Let's Go Mets on the last part of Shea before it was demolished.
