Another excellent 3D anaglyph, Lpeters! Shea Stadium in 3D looks extra special with the Manhattan skyline off in the background. Thanks so much for these contributions. I'm a big fan!
    Put it in the books.

"Shea Stadium - Home Of The Jets" On Scoreboard

Does anyone know when the Jets stopped using the "Shea Stadium - Home Of The Jets" on the back of the scoreboard? I also don't remember any pictures of the Mets using their logo at any time.

I believe that logo (in the picture I think you are referring to) was digitally added. There was nothing written on the back on the scoreboard at Shea for it's first 20 years.

Here are some screen captures I made of the left field board at Shea Stadium, the one they had prior to the Diamond Vision. These images were taken from a video of Opening Day 1980 at Shea Stadium on You Tube which was uploaded by user gregnugget on August 11, 2010. The video is titled "Mets vs Cubs - Opening Day 1980 - Shea Stadium" and the link to the video itself is here.

On the last image, the dimness of the second "Bang" is because the two Bangs were flashed separately, and the screen capture was made just as the second "Bang" was in the process of being flashed on the board. The original person who filmed this stopped filming just before the second "Bang" was completely lit.

Great pictures, Mygirljess. Thanks for sharing them!

Shea always looked great with a big crowd. I loved the graceful, sweeping curve of the grandstand, and how the shape of the stands gave one a sense of the crowd spilling out of the Loge and down into the Field Level seats. Of course, Shea was even more beautiful with the original colored seats, green outfield wall, and "Stadiarama" scoreboard. Aside from today's premium amenities, Shea's design was so much more elegant than CitiField. Unfortunately, we'll probably never see anything like her again in our lifetime.

Here's the box score from that game. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...99009201.shtml

Thanks, Chef Bill! I never would have remembered those details of the game. Soon I'm going to post a couple of my really cool shots of Shea from 1970, as soon as I can get them converted from Kodachrome slides to digital!

Channel 9 opening from the 1970s!

The original 1960s opening, with a few 70s shots swapped in. WOW I've wanted to see this for a long time!

Check out the centerfield fence behind Seaver at :17.

Somebody on this thread once described trying to find this clip as the Holy Grail. Whoever that was, I hope you're reading this and enjoy it!

What a great find! Surprised no one else commented on it. And Lindsay Nelson is music to my ears. A few shots of the 1967 pale green/aqua fence in that intro, the Seaver shot would have to be from his rookie season. Awesome stuff. Now let's find a complete TV game (except for '69 WS)! Must be one out their somewhere.

Many variations of this here before, not sure if this exact one has been posted. If so, apologies.

They did cut it close, didn't they!

I can't authoritatively say it's not "an" original 1960s intro, but I don't think it's the original, as in 'the first one they used.' The page introducing Mr. Met in the 1963 Mets Yearbook says:

Presently "Mr. Met" is appearing at the opening of all New York Met television broadcasts where he will be acting out the chorus of the official Met song, "Meet the Mets."

Mr. Met is nowhere to be found in the opening credits that were linked to in the original post.

I love that those exact original Mr Met illustrations from 1963 have stood the test of time for 50 years; a timeless, genius design. Love the one with the umbrella that was on virtually every ticket until the '90's. Certainly the best baseball mascot of all time.

The Mets could use the image of Mr. Met signing the autograph for the kid as a scoreboard graphic when they win - remove the kid and pair it up with Howie Rose's "Put it in the books!"

Here's a cool Getty Images shot of "an unidentified man" looking over Coogan's Bluff towards the Polo Grounds, holding a copy of the 1962 Mets program (which has an image of Flushing Meadows Stadium, new 1963 home of the New York Mets, on the front cover).

View from behind of an unidentified man who stands on Coogan's Bluff and looks down at the Polo Grounds stadium with a copy of the 1962 New York Mets program, the cover of which depicts the future home of the team, Shea Stadium, New York, New York, 1962. The Polo Grounds closed in 1964. (Photo by Bruce Bennett Studios/Getty Images)

I think he was a modern day Nostradamus who saw this picture in his head a mere 7 years in the future.

Here's a gem I found on You Tube - public address announcer Jack Lightcap's introduction of the players prior to Game 3 of the 1969 World Series. If you just want to hear the introductions of the Met players, skip ahead to 2:56...

Last year, I met Tom Seaver at a signing and got him to sign a repro of this cover, which I had framed for my Dad for Father's Day (with his ticket to that game)
He signed it "To Bob, Amazin' Fan and Father - Tom Seaver" --- His "Am" in "Amazin" frames the elder me's face.

Wow. Awesome. May be the ultimate Mets memorabilia for your Dad - best Met ever, probably THE best Met moment ever, ticket to best Met moment ever, personalized by said best Met ever, plus he's IN it, front and center! Thanks for sharing.
