Which lead to this site, what is this all about?

Well....I think that was just for plain fun. No way is that feasible.

Retractable seating, seen in many arenas, can be used to facilitate smaller rodeo events that currently take place in NRG Arena (which the Rodeo wants replaced), concerts, plays or any other seating type of gathering. The entire circular floor is interchangeable to handle large scale festivals, park areas and added space for the Offshore Technology Conference (who needs additional space). The use of the Astrodome would be part public and private, depending on the event taking place. The main floor/hall of the Astrodome would be accessible by the public. Some events would be ticketed and then there would be days where the public can enjoy the interior space as a park site. Museum-like displays (much like a Hall of Fame) are built into the actual walls of the Astrodome, so the history of the building is visible to the public at all times (no matter the event).
I wish you luck in re-envisioning the Astrodome.

If you think what was to become of Chelsea Piers 30 years ago, and look at it now, you would scream at the idea of building an interstate or a parking lot on the site... All it took was an entrepreneur and a lot of leg work to turn what the NY DOT owned - four dilapidated piers - into something very special visited by 4 million people annually.

So think about what you have, what the city does not have, and how you can marry the two to permit the Astrodome to serve its constituents for another 50 years...

lol sounds about right. Didn't know if the rest of the site was taken as serious either.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

Thank you. I appreciate it. Here is a link to a video showing how my model was built and possible transformation of the Astrodome. The quality of this version is not very great, but you can get the idea.

I still think that the Astrodome would make an awesome plane'arium. Just think of the screen they could put into a ceiling like that. The IMAX shows, the plane'arium displays...the awesomeness would be off the charts.

I didn't go through the many pages of this thread, but why haven't they done something with it like that? I Would think it would be a great place for something like that.

My fav. is the opening line from the deadspin article:

"Do you hate your family? Bring them to a baseball game, but instead of watching baseball, force them to learn about the life and times of Bud Selig."

Since December, Green Team Environmental has been washing the exterior concrete screen around the Astrodome. The process removes grime without damaging the concrete or removing paint. Here are some comparison photos. At this time, about 60% of the exterior walls and columns appear to be done. The building looks good compared to what it had been for the past several years. The last time the Astrodome was completely repainted was 1985, but was touched up in 1990. I think the brick portals at the bottom and the corrugated metal at the top are going to be repainted to match the color from 1965. Harris County has done a great job with the cleaning process and paid for the wash with funds generated from the sales of seats from the Astrodome. The Astrodome does not carry any debt and the redevelopment of it into a county park for use by citizens of Harris County, the Houston Texans and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo will hopefully move forward in the near future.

You can really see a difference, it looks great! Any plans to fix up the inside yet?

The interior has seen the removal of almost all seats and asbestos work has been done in many areas. The next stage would involve a plan, probably rolled out in stages (my guess), to convert the interior to a county park.
