No room on the Major League roster now that Mark is here.
What will the Braves do with Scott Thorman? I believe he is out of options.

I don't care what they do with him. I say good riddance.
I say keep him and get rid of Franco. Franco is my favorite Brave, but now that we have our 1st baseman we don't really need Franco.

franco is a more experienced pinch hitter and can play OF, doesn't strikeout as much, probably a better clutch hitter
and he is 48, thats pretty cool!
Actually Thorman has played OF before in the minors I believe. Franco would only play OF if we were desperate and would more likely play 3B if he would play anywhere else. Thorman is either going to get DFA or traded because I doubt anyone will claim him off of waivers.

Thorman came up as a 3B and OF. I would trade him, either way...

maybe we can get a respectable backup catcher for Thorman
I don't think that would be possible. Besides, it's not vital.
Franco would be a better pinch-hitter than Thorman. All I think Thorman would do is hack all the time and usually strike out. He DID have that pinch hit homer a few days ago, but I don't think that would be the norm.

Can you say waivers?
Clennon they need to make the move today I believe it takes at least 47 hours for the person to clear waivers.

Wow, Scott Thorman is still with the team. Julio has been DFA and Ascanio was sent down to AA. I think they believe Julio has a much better chance of clearing waivers they will offer him a minor league contract. Then I think they will try to trade Thorman and bring Julio back up but that is just my guess.

Or just wait for the 40-man roster...
Yeah, he'll probably be back in September. But, the Braves say he could come back in a player-coach role in the minors.

If you haven't kept up, you realize Randolph gave him 50 at-bats...50 at-bats...in the whole year.
Bobby Cox gave him 50 in 2 weeks, and that's with him not starting every day. He just needs at-bats, and he's fine.
With Braves, he's pulled through a lot... couple sac flys, clutch singles and doubles.
That's why I'd value him over Thorman. Yes, Thorman can kill some balls.. but not showing his value yet.
I'd rather him be sent to minors and in a few years come back up. Who knows? Thorman could be another Morneau..
Dingo Thorman wouldn't clear waivers so that he could be sent to the minors as he is a young 1B with decent defense and 20 - 30 HR potential. I know he stinks but if anything Dayton Moore has shown he will take any Braves cast offs no matter what. Franco already cleared waivers once and did again as much as Thorman has sucked he still has some potential.

I'm going to state for the record, i think Thorman will have a good career and be an above average 1st baseman down the road. I believe he will have a 40+ HR year and become a major assest for his team, whichever team it may be.
I don't think he will have that high of a ceiling. He looks like a lower Ryan Klesko which isn't bad but is also nothing great. Thorman has good power that will translate into 25 maybe 30 HR potential and if he is in the right park maybe 35 but not 40. Thorman has enough talent that he will catch on with someone else if he doesn't stay with the Braves but he won't be anything special.
