Oh, did I miss something, I thought the winner was declared after 162 games.

Any truth to the rumor that the reason Thursday's game didn't start until 10:30 pm is so Jorge Posada could watch the first half of the Miami-Dallas NBA Finals? ;-)

If only this was a rematch of the ''72 Finals and the results were the same as back then. Now who did we beat back then and WHRE did we win it? Oh yeah...

OK. (Without looking at your enclosed link), we beat the NEW YORK Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Bobby Orr scored the winning goal. He holds the record for number of times scoring the winning goal that clinched the Stanley Cup. Twice in 1970 & 1972.

    Unhappy

I get so down when they lose.

After four straight losses, depression sets in.

    I just had a thought:

Remember that game on 9/20/2001, the first baseball game in NYC after 9/11? That was between the Mets and the Braves, who are of course fairly strong rivals - yet before the game started, everyone congregated on the field and exchanged handshakes, hugs, and assorted other pleasantries. Even the fans didn't boo - they cheered for both teams. Something that you just don't usually see in baseball. My thought is this:

If that had been a Yankees/Red Sox game, would those two teams (and their respective fans) have been as friendly to each other as the Mets and Braves were?
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Perhaps for the duration of the 3 game series.

Beyond that, not so much . . .

I wonder how fans in Boston reacted when 9/11 went down.

I did see a sign at Fenway soon afterward that said "Boston Loves New York". Guess anything's better than nothing eh? Figured it would have to take something like 9/11 to cool the rivalry, not just between the fans, but the cities themselves (AFAIK, Boston and NYC have always been at loggerheads - dates back to the Revolutionary War, when Boston was hardcore revolutionary and NYC was largely Loyalist).

In 2008, I was at Louis' Lunch three years ago in New Haven and while eating there, I noticed some Red Sox-related paraphernalia on the walls; I distinctly remembered some stuff about hating the traitor Johnny Damon. While I mentioned I was from Brooklyn, I didn't want to mention I was a baseball fan as I didn't want to stir any arguments. The Sox were defending world champions while my team had an interesting 2007 season.

With inter-league almost finished, I'm hoping people come here to argue about that fierce Seattle-San Diego rivalry.
The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.

I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town
    Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles
    (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
    That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves
    (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
    Oh, Boston, you're my home
(oh, you're the Number One place)
    Frustrated women
    (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock
    (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked
(I like to save time for my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
    Oh, Boston, you're my home
    (oh, yeah)
Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home
    (oh, yeah)
Well, I love that dirty water
    (I love it, baby)
    I love that dirty water
    (I love Baw-stun)
    I love that dirty water
(Have you heard about the Strangler?)
    I love that dirty water
(I'm the man, I'm the man)
    I love that dirty water
    (Owww!)
    I love that dirty water
    (Come on, come on)
Man, do I *HATE* the Yankees!!!!!!

    Red face 2 & 10. That must suck . . . .

I guess the cream does always rise to the top.

I really feel bad for the Yankee fans.

To have a 2 W & 10 L record against your chief division rival has to be tuff to take . . .

    Unhappy Al East: disappointing.

So much was anticipated even expected from the powerful AL East right from the start.

Certainly no one could have anticipated the monumental collapse of the Boston Red Sox .
I mean 20 losses in September! Are you kidding me? I still can not understand what the hell happened .
It looked to me like they didn't care if they made it to the playoffs or not.

At least the Yankees & the Rays made it to the post season. But neither could make it past the first round.

    2011 ended with a whimper . . .

    I'm glad it's over.
Now lets see if the off season's wheeling & dealing can provide some hope for 2012.
