Show me a guy who's afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat every time.
-Lou Brock-
I don't want Posada. He's having a career year with the bat and isn't great defensively.

I wouldn't want to be Brian Cashman (or Steinbrenner's accountant) this winter. They have to deal with Posada, Rivera & Arod. They should make Georgie the first baseman.
They've said they won't pursue A-Rod if he opts out.

They will.
I don't see the Yankees letting Posada get away, because they don't have anyone to fill his shoes. Wil Nieves isn't ready to step up so they'd just have to go and get a free agent anyway.
i think it would be a good addition to the team, since LoDuca's and Castro's contract are both expiring this year

Posada is a Yankee, he's got the attitude. He can stay put.
He would have had a lot of playing time when Matsui and Damon were injured and Abreu and Cabrera couldn't hit. Letting him go has shown the Yankees are going with the Braves old philosophy; we love you while you're here but when your contract is up, we'll show you the door.

Posada isn't leaving. Amd I think Cashman is playing chicken with A-ROd. One of them will give in.
DON'T TRADE THE MELK MAN!!!!!!!!
First, there is nothing wrong with that philosophy. They get paid well enough, no reason to let them hang on at the end of career if the team doesn't think they can be useful.
Second, and more important, the Yankees were giving him a chance to make the team, but Bernie refused to come to spring training without a guaranteed spot. You are right - as it turned out, he would have likely gotten a lot of playing time. But I blame Bernie for that more than the Yankees
