Mods, I think it's time to merge this thread with the Landshark/Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Dolphin Stadium thread.

I saw the article and I replied as follows to Mr. Plaschke:

Good afternoon Mr. Plaschke from Sunny South Florida:

I read your column on the horrific attendance at the Dodgers game and not only have they become the Florida Marlins of now, they have also become the Montreal Expos before the eventual grave of baseball in Montreal was dug deep and the remnants of the franchise shipped off to Washington DC. The Dodgers is in a place that no one in baseball wants and until this ownership changes, there is only one word for that of the Dodgers fan base. And that is apathy. I have lived down here in South Florida for two years and I see the apathy of the fans where there is more fans for the opposing teams that visit Sun Life Stadium. I am also a fan of another team becoming somewhat apathetic with ownership in that of the Houston Astros. Now there has been some rejuvenation of the franchise since Drayton sold the team this year to new ownership. For the apathy to go away in Dodger Land is simple. Hopefully Bud realizes this and gets the Dodgers to a great ownership group to get the fan base going again. Because the "Dodger" fans have dug themselves a grave and it will take them a while to regain the trust of the fans that they so desperately need.

P.S. Look at it this way. The Dodgers have one thing better than the Marlins right now and that is the Dodger-dogs.

I don't know if you agree with what I wrote in response, but I have seen it so much with the Marlins and now the Astros fanbase I know is getting apathetic as well (although most of that is more directed at Drayon and the GM equally and not just ownership).

Your letter/viewpoint has a fatal flaw; Dodger fans are not "apathetic". In fact, just the opposite--they are angry--passionately angry at Frank McCourt. So angry that they are boycotting a stadium that they have filled to record numbers even during bad seasons like this.

This is a fanbase that outdrew the Yankees two years ago--the mighty Yankees, who won the World Series that year, yet the Dodgers were #1 in attendance, despite the fact that they haven't been in a world series in 23 years.

Dodger fans are anything but apathetic. They're just so pissed off they're giving up something they love until the cancer is removed.

All Baseball fans should be proud of how the Dodger fans have reacted this year.

Hate to say it, but the Dogs fans are doing good stuff and will be able to hold their heads high when this is all over.

    I AGREE with you
for this year, the dodgers with about 10 more home games left
will once again, for almost the 15th year in a row go over 3 million in tickets sold
compare to the marlins, who will be LUCKY if they reach 1.5 million.
SO THE FAN BASE IS THERE AND LOYAL
as the article states fan don't want to give more money to the owner or the people
    running the team front office.

reminds me of the mets team from the 70's
who year after year led all of MLB in total attendance in the ballpark
or were 2nd or close behind the dodgers, until the famous year (1977)
known to us mets fans as GRANT'S TOMB.
when the chairman of the board (M.Don Grant) traded away tom seaver and others.
the owners did nothing to stop the maddest known as "the Midnight Massacre"
for a long time fans stayed away and
in 1979 for the first at shea the mets DID NOT go over the 1 million mark
we mets fans were and still are loyal, we just boycotted until
Mr. grant was fired and the owners sold the team

I wish Cubs fans would do this! I haven't purchased a ticket the past two seasons

Actually, the fact that they haven't has helped the Brewers become competitive because of all the tickets the Cubs fans buy when they play up there. Though those are a lot harder to get these days.

I believe you are 100% correct. I hope that McCourt takes the hint soon. My biggest fear in the whole situation is McCourt gets the new Television deal done and continues to leach money for many more years. Please let the court rule in Jamies (shiver) favor and for a sale of the assets. I feel for the Dodgers faithful, hang in there it can't last forever. can it?

As a lifelong Dodger fan, I am many thousands of Dodger fans who are voicing their displeasure of the ownership of Frank MCBankrupt. Please MLB do something quick before all star players like Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw jump other teams via free agency.

I went to two games this past week, and I did a sweep of the whole stadium. I'll post pictures as soon as they are uploaded.

Is McCourt that cheap that he makes fans do custodial work? Holy moley...

These are from the Clayton Kershaw ejection game.

Frank McCourt's office window. He's had this window blocked off with what I'm guessing is a bookcase all season long. I went back again on Fan Appreciation Day a few days later and the bookcase was gone. Hopefully McCourt is gone as well.

    McCourt's emergency exit.

    Remaining Club seats.

Concession stands closed. Was the case throughout the stadium.

    Bullpen

Nice pitchers signing autographs for fans right up until the first pitch.

    Po-po's.

Moved to seats behind home for the remainder of the game.

Few more before I call it a night. Will have the Fan Appreciation photos next.

Look how small the gloves were back then. From the Brooklyn exhibit.

Some celebrity sighting. Don't know who it was, but they were making a ruckus in the Dugout Club area.

Great pics, CD. I always liked the clean lines and smooth curves of the grandstand as well as the Jetson's-style roof of Dodger Stadium.

I typically like ballparks within an urban setting, but Dodger Stadium and Kauffman are two stadiums that actually look better in their suburban type of setting, unlike Citi Field that looks lost in a parking lot and begs to be surrounded by buildings and/or skyscrapers. The landscape in and around Dodger Stadium compliments it perfectly. DS just wouldn't be as attractive with tall building, factories or bridges hovering over it.

Edit: By the way, whose that dude that's "still alive?" I can't seem to make him out. Is it Sandy Koufax's "good buddy" from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., Larry King? (or so Larry claims even though Sandy denies ever being friend with him)

And finally, pictures from Fan Appreciation Day. Since the game was pretty much decided early on, I decided to go to all the levels of the park and bid farewell until next season (random trespassing excluded).

3rd base side, Stadium Club entrance.

Cool medallion type thing on the entrance to the Dodgers offices.

The view of the Dodgers bullpen from the very end of the club level.

    Pavilions. (not the sto')

The Man in action. Not a very clear shot, but it's the best commentator ever in there.

From the Field Level entry way, bullpen in the foreground, rest of the stadium in the background.

Looking up to the Loge Level and the Stadium Club.

The Pirates bullpen was very busy all day.

    Back of the pavilions.

The pavilion bathrooms are located beneath the field level stands.

These would... be the kind of pictures I would take, if I was there. But I wasn't... so I didn't...
