Is that storm damage or vandalism?

I'm going to dodger stadium for the 1st time in January so I'm really excited to see this ballpark. Anyone suggest something in particular that I should also go see?

I'm sure it's wind damage, although we've had some windy years since the sign was erected. Maybe it just gave out, or old man McCourt is trying to auction off the letters.

Some pictures maybe some of you might find of interest, including the hardly visited 8R concourse.

    Seconded.

It would be interesting to see some shots of Dodger Stadium taken from the surrounding area. Not being from L.A., I obviously don't know what's possible - could Dodger Stadium be seen from the vantage point in the photo jnakamura posted? - but even if it's just long distance shots from the entrance to the parking areas and that sort of thing, I still think it would be interesting. Properly annotated, of course, for those of us who, again, aren't from L.A. and wouldn't know Farmer John from Stuttering John.

A couple of Google shots from the same street in and around the same area of Chinatown on N Broadway. Too bad we can't see the exact address of the old photo, but these shots should be pretty close.

The first photo is for reference (Orange dot representing approximate location of photo).

In the bottom photo, the top of the hill is the rim of the stadium parking lot.

Angels Point Rd might be the only public street where you can actually glimpse the stadium itself. On all other sides it's surrounded by hills which block any view of the stadium complex. It is, after all, in a Ravine.

It can't be seen from that vantage point. All you see are the palm trees.

I put up pictures in 2009 from atop White Knoll Dr. The lights and the exterior of the 3rd base grandstand could be seen. Not much else. If you ever go to the Griffith Observatory at night and there is a Dodger game going on, you can definitely see the lights from there.

My favorite Mexican restaurant is in that general area, the next time I go I will try and get pictures from the vantage points jnakamura posted.

Sunday, June 18, 1967, Father's Day, Claude Osteen goes all the way for a 5-3 victory over the Reds. Willie Davis is leading off the game here, and coming back to the plate after a foul ball. Sammy Ellis the Reds pitcher. LA was already firmly in the second division at this point, having a down year after winning the '66 pennant, and Koufax's retirement.

There are some great photos in this thread. I was at Dodger Stadium in '92, I really liked it. It is a beautiful, classic ballpark. I hope I can go back someday.

Wow, awesome photo! Amazing both how little the stadium has changed and how well that photo has been preserved over the years. It looks so fresh and new! If you ignore the field at the bottom, you could fool anyone into thinking it was taken just this year!

Were the warm up mounds in front of the dugouts actual mounds or just a pitching rubber and plate?

It looks like the lower deck is the only thing that has changed....

I like the larger foul territory and dugout boxes before the renovations.

It's too bad they didn't include that World's Fair looking sculpture thing behind home plate. That looks pretty cool and would have been a nice touch to the stadium.
