Bowling at the Polo Grounds? Yogi Berra and Gil Hodges.... in their baseball uniforms for crying out loud!!

But... is this really the PG? The stands don't look right, the dugout appears to be very near first base, when I think it should be further towards home plate, but the outfiled bullpen roof is unmistakeable!

By looking at these photos to me it does not look like the polo grounds.

I am about 99% sure that isn't the Polo Grounds. The roof for a possible bullpen is in the wrong spot. And the wall has no curve to it. There's also a fence infront of said roof.

It looks like Gil is wearing a home jersey but that probably isn't Grifith either.

I do a little book-worming and get back to this. This is definately intriguing.

Hodges became Senators manager during the 1963 season which was the last season for the Polo Grounds. Hodges owned a bowling alley so he would have a good reason for taking part. Very doubtful it is the Polo Grounds.

    RFK Stadium

The bowling took place in RFK Stadium. Gil Hodges is in his home uniform. Here is a pic of the left field wall of RFK. The same little shed is in both pics

Thanks for the info. Yogi Berra was Yankee manager in 1964 and in 1965 was in the NL with the Mets. Thus the picture must date from 1964!

I was going to suggest RFK. Did anyone see Soriano's upper deck blast to near dead center this past season? Had the deck not been there it probably would have been a pretty good tape measure shot.

    NOT the Polo Grounds

    Well done everyone.

Here is the original website where I found the Bowling Photo.... They claim it as the PG, but of course, we are smarter!!!

    http://www.levittownbowling.com/photobbplayers.htm

Which then brings up another question.... I thought the bullpens at the PG were the only IN PLAY fair territory bullpens in all of baseball? Perhaps not?

It cant be.......it's probably DC(RFK). When did Hodges sstart managing the Sens??.........The latest it could be is 1964 as Yogi was still a Yankee (MGR). Hodges is in his home uniform.....if that means anything.

Does anyone know when there planning to demolish RFK stadium after the Nationals move into thier new park??? C60

Unless/Until the D.C. United soccer team gets a stadium of its own, it will continue to host United soccer games.

There's been talk of the United getting a soccer-only stadium, but right now it's just been speculation--no funding.

I've heard long-shot rumors the Redskins want to return to DC proper, and could use the RFK site for a new stadium, but given that FedEx Field is only 10 years old, I doubt that is going to happen for a while. (Then again, the Miami Heat abandoned the Miami Arena--which was built for them--after only 11 years, so anything's possible.)

Yeah but the Miami Arena isn't a 91,704 seat stadium is it. Big corporate difference there I think.

True, and I doubt Fed Ex Field is going anywhere anytime soon.

But I have heard Redskins fans hate the place with a passion.

Can't wait to see the plans for the new stadium. Interestingly, they already blocked off the area where the new stadium will be built, but they haven't shown the public any of the plans.

Dan Snyder isn't going to just sit there and let Jerry Jones build that monument to himself in Dallas, while he sits in a stadium created out of desperation by a dying Jack Kent Cooke. The Redskins will be back in DC by 2012 at the latest...

well in any event, FedX will most likely be staying with the Redskins as they have good ties with the skins and Coach Gibbs.

My timeline may be a bit short, but yours is almost certainly too long.
However, I doubt either one of us will still be posting here by then (if there is even a here still here), so I guess we shouldn't bet on it!

Thirty-five dollars to park your car at FedEx. Food is outrageously overpriced. I think beer is $7 a cup.

Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium / District Of Columbia Stadium

Amazed at all the old pictures on this forum, and love to look at them, but don't post on this site. However, I have searched the internet for photos of the Washington Senators in action at RFK Stadium, and found extremely few. Would anyone have action shots of the Senators, version 2, in action at RFK or in other stadiums? Or at least point me to a site of actions shots. Seen several individual pics on sites, but looking for RFK Stadium shots from the 60's. Thanks.
To those that post pics from other stadiums from days gone by, this viewer appreciates them and I thank you for sharing.

Are there plans to demolish RFK? It's prime property. I definitely don't like riding the Metro in that area at night. I know the DC United soccer team has been wanting to build a new stadium, but it's gotten bogged down as they have gotten torpedoed on two sites, one across from Nationals Park, and the other in MD.
It's got to be costing DC a ton of money to keep RFK open. Hardly any events there anymore.

There is talk/rumors that Synder wants to build a new stadium for the Redskins on the site where RFK is now. Which is totally ridiculous. FedEx is still relatively new. Yeah traffic sucks on the beltway when there are games, but traffic sucks too in DC after a game at RFK when the Nationals played there.

Haven't the DC United got a new stadium yet?
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

I am surprised that they haven't worked out a deal to share FedEx. Keeps FedEx more active( something Snyder is working for) and saves money in having to build a redundant stadium.
