Last to win 19 of 20

I can not find another team that won 19-20 in any setting, regular or postseason since '77. Did the A's come close 5-6 years ago? I think they won 15 straight.

The 2001 A's won 29 of their last 33 games. Their longest winning streak in that was nine. The A's had a 20-game winning streak in 2002 as well!! DAMN, that's good!

Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

The funny thing is, those 2001 A's had 102 wins and were THE WILDCARD...Seattle had 116 wins to take the division. Course, nobody showed up for the postseason...

I know you specified "since 1977", but I have to throw in the 1906 Cubs, who were on an absolutely tear pretty much all season. But at the end of the season, they were nearly unstoppable:

beginning August 6th, they won 11 in a row, then lost 1 game on August 19th, then won 14 in a row, then lost 1 game on September 2nd, then won 12 in a row. You aren't going to find a streak like that again.

The 1986 Mets won 18 of 19 in April and played winning ball the rest of the season.

The 1984 Tigers won 16 of 17 right out of the gate and 35 of their first 40 games, running away with the AL-East by late May.

Largely forgotten due to circumstances, the 1994 Montreal Expos put on a great display to end the season, winning 20 of 22 games before losing the last game before the strike/lockout.

They finished with the best record in the majors: 74-40. It was a tremendous season that will never be remembered.

you also have the 1935 cubs who were the last NL team to do the 19 of 20

The '01 Mariners had 7, 9, and 15 game winning streaks, and never lost more than 2 in a row until Sept 20 when they lost 4 in a row. But that doesn't compare to the 06 Cubs streak that Ytown Tribe fan talked about. The Mariners just kept winning 4 in a row, losing 1, then win another 3 or 4. lose another 1, win 2 more, lose 1, etc etc etc. Crazy stuff.
I'm still hurting from that year. 116 wins, and nothing to show for it.

    In 2002, from 08/13 through 09/04, the A's won 20 straight games.

Now they've won 20 of 21. Hope they clinch tonight or tomorrow night. I don't want them to head back to Arizona at all.
