I love how the OG names keep coming back like roaches. Does Jack Murphy have life remaining to be tapped?

The naming rights deal with Qualcomm expires in 2017 so hope springs eternal.

The white uni's made the players look like athletes, although they would not have been able to help John Kruck.
Colored tops made 'em look like beer league softball'ers...

    Now that's the Paul W I missed!
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

    REG-gie! REG-gie! REG-gie!

I forgot that the A's only had the A on the cap until (I guess) 1970 (when they switched to the green/gold cap). Also, no white shoes!!

I started following baseball during the 1969 World Series, so for regular season games it was 1970 (though I collected baseball cards, and all those pics were taken during the 1969 season (almost all at Shea or Yankee Stadium)).

The A's went to white shoes while still in Kansas City. They wore black spikes in BP for a number of years because the white shoes were quite expensive.

Great photos! Even a pic of Charlie-O the mule!

Question - can the second set be from 1975 or later? Scoreboard has (Ken) Singleton at bat, who was apparently to lead off for Baltimore when the game started, but he didn't join the Orioles until 1975.

    You are welcome!
You could be right about the year, I dug these pics out of a drawer, memory of dates a bit fuzzy!

Is the original outfield concourse still intact beneath Mt. Davis? or was everything out there demo'd to ground level in 1995?

I guess now the speculation opens up since today the NFL has voted the Raiders to move to Las Vegas starting 2019.

What's strange is that unlike other teams that have relocated, the Raiders will stay in Oakland in 2017 and 2018 to play out the time left on their lease. The Las Vegas stadium won't be ready until 2020 and there's speculation that they might then move in 2019 and play in Sam Boyd Stadium when their lease in Oakland expires.

I hope this gives greater leverage for the A's to get finally get a new ballpark in Oakland.

They deserve it and Oakland should show some appreciation for the major league team that STAYED!

Maybe if newspapers and other media refused to use these sponsor names in their stories, thus providing free advertising, these naming deals would be less valuable and they would go away. Just refer to the venue as A's Stadium or Met's field etc. in the stories.

City of Oakland should tear down Mt. Davis just for spite, let Raiders play without it for 2 years. Athletics don't need it, and Raiders won't either. I can't see the Raiders hanging around for 2 lame duck years.

Put a replica of Shibe Park in Jack London Square site.

The shorter power alleys and Death Valley in center field will increase both homers and triples, which makes it exciting for lovers of the long ball and of sliding plays at 3b and home plate.
