The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
Absolutely fantastic set!
Would I be correct in assuming this is under the bleachers?

Love the Earl Combs picture. Thanks so much for sharing. Earl Combs, in my opinion, is an under-appreciated Yankees great

WOW, what a set, final game at OYS! Has to be one of the best albums that exist from the final days of the old stadium. A real stunner, what a find!!!

Cool tip with the Picasa web albums - the default view is smaller than the actual photo size (at 640 or 720 pixels across or so), but if you right-click and get the actual photo URL (right-click -> Properties on PC, right-click -> Copy Image Address on Mac), you can change the "S" number in the URL to the largest size available (1600 in the case of this album) to see the photos in their full size glory (S640 or S720 in the URL to S1600).

Those are some great pix from Sept 30 & Oct 1 '73. Forty years later and buried treasures are still surfacing. Not sure if that one pic is under the bleachers, might be under the Field Level seats.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Yankee Stadium. Here are the lineups for todays game...
This is a still frame from a video. It appears to be from 1956-early 1960s. Can anyone explain the multicolored upper wall over to the right?
[EDIT: maybe a hint of the same effect in this 1964 image]

Had reason to go digging on this . . . Appears, if this were a Ladies Day at YS, it would have been Saturday August 6, 1949. News report says: "Six home runs, topped off by ninth-inning circuit clouts by Tommy Henrich and Joe DiMaggio, enabled the New York Yankees to overcome a five-run deficit and beat the St. Louis Browns, 9 to 8, yesterday before a frenzied Ladies Day crowd of 19,935." Total crowd most likely was significantly higher than 19,935, since ladies, admitted for free or for a significant discount, were not counted in official attendance figures. Papers sometimes would give separate numbers for "paid" attendance and for the number of ladies attending. Official attendance never included those admitted for free or steep discounts, since a visiting team's share of ticket sales were based only on those who paid full price to see the game. Crowd size in photos seem like it would have been a large crowd for Yankee Stadium, what with bleachers jammed. Note, of course, that the Yanks chose a game against the hapless Browns for this Ladies Day promotion; this was typical for many teams, pumping up attendance against weaker opponents. The more enlightened, like Bill Veeck in Cleveland, would schedule Ladies Days on Saturdays, too, but against strong opponents. On Saturday June 11 (1949), for example, the Indians hosted the Yankees and drew 30,215 ladies to Municipal Stadium, in addition to the 31,308 who paid their way into the stadium.
number3 I'm not sure what you're referring to.
