Thanks. I wasn't trying to split hairs. I think that at the last Yankee game in September, the fans ripped up the place and were taking whatever was not nailed down. No way they could play football there after that.

Even though Mara was a pretty nice guy, he always held a grudge about the way he was treated in 1973. Whether it was Trump talking about a dome in Queens, or Mayor Koch talking to the Jets, or even Bllomberg's west side dome, all football talks centered on bringing the Jets back to NYC, and not the Giants. It was only after Mara died did I read stories about his ill feelings towards YS. When his son was talking about PSL's and the new stadium, Wellington allegedly threw his hands up and said something like "I was happy playing in the Polo Grounds".

I found it here, in an article written by a guy saying that NYS was nothing special compared to the old one:

Some LIFE pictures from "Google souce:life" searches for Baltimore Colts and Washington Redskins:

Try this type of search on Google's Image box using different teams from the old NFL. Some others have pictures taken at OYS.

    Whoa!:

At first, I thought this was Opening Day 1925, because we've seen several pics from this general location (though from farther back in the bleachers). But there was no bunting for OD 1925. Further, the bunting that is visible in this pic is the same type as we've seen in 1923 OD pics, so this must be from that day. Check out how the ground rises past the edge of the grandstand seats moving back to the bleacher fence.

I found this one searching the Bain collection, from Bill Burgess' links:

    http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...56sf=35771:@@@

    http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...temp/~pp_eohu:

There are archival images of 10-54 megabytes stored at these links. Some pretty cool zoom-ins are possible.

I wonder if the "BETTING or SOLICITING BETS PROHIBITED" sign is among the rubble right now (maybe painted over). Also Note section marker placards behind bleacher sections.

WOW! That is one amazing find! Check out the outfield wall, and Sousa's band sitting right in the corner of the grandstand! Not to mention the way the grandstand just kind of goes right into the ground. Simply astonishing.

I would say the sign is probably there (assuming it was painted over), but isn't among the rubble yet. The framing is still up that far back.

    Thanks again for posting it!!!

My pleasure. It's great to find these images and share them here. I think the huge archival versions are a new feature. Some examples of their clarity:

We've all seen this pic of Opening Day 1923:

But with the hi-res version, you can zoom in and see details, such as that inside the entrance. Does that say "Game No. 1"? If so, it's very cool:

Next, the upper deck has some sort of mesh separating adjacent sections (2 pics):

A closer look at that LF wall:

    And the marching band:

Lastly (for now) a look at the same crazy corner in LF from the 1925 OD pic:

I'd say that's a pretty good guess, when looking at the line up on the scoreboard..
Whitey was pitching, Elston was catching, Roger was in right, Pepitione at 1st, and I guess The Mick had the day off that day...

Plus, Sandy Koufax is on the mound. So this must've been from the 1963 WS...

So Mickey must've played in the second game...
