Fire Lieutenant Dies In Brooklyn Blaze

One veteran fire lieutenant, husband and father has been killed and at least five firefighters injured battling a blaze in a high-rise building in Brooklyn Thursday night.
Four civilians were also seriously injured Thursday night.
Lt. John H. Martinson, 40, was the father of a 2-year-old boy. He served the city for a combined 18 years as a firefighter and police officer, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
It appears that Martinson went into cardiac arrest on the the 13th floor. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital where he died.
The fire department said none of the other injuries were considered life-threatening.
The three-alarm blaze broke out around 7:15 p.m. Thursday on the 14th floor at 1700 Bedford Ave., the Fire Department said, in the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens section.
Twenty-five units with 106 firefighters responded, a fire department spokesman said.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
