Two days ago, the Yankees played the Blue Jays. Mark Teixeira was 0/6 with 5 strikeouts and Adam Lind was 0/6 strikeouts. It as the first time in Major League history that opposing #3 hitters combined to go 0/12 with as many as 9 strikeouts (according the Elias Sports Bureau).

Only twice in MLB history has a team hit 7 home runs in a loss. Both times it was Detroit Tigers - albeit 9 years apart.

the 1988 baltimore orioles -- yeah, the team that lost their first 21 games -- and this year's edition have the same win-loss after the first 64 games: 17-47.

Jason Heyward's home run on opening day in his first Major League at bat was the longest home run in the Majors so far this season. (476 ft according to http://www.hittrackeronline.com).

The last four teams to hit 7+ HRs in a game are the Reds, the Reds, the Reds, and the Reds, against the Cubs, the Cubs, the Cubs, and the Brewers.

Since 2006, the average HR distance is 398 feet. None of Dustin Pedroia's 59 career HRs have traveled that far.

With their 12-inning 4-3 victory over the Cubs a couple days ago, the Astros have now won 11 consecutive games played on Wednesdays. Especially odd considering this is a team that's 39-56.

Make that 12 Wednesday wins in a row for the 'Stros after yesterday's 8-1 shellacking of the Cubs. I'm tempted to write "Wed" in every box on my mini-schedule!

The first regular season home run in Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals history was hit by a relief pitcher.

All four of the 1969 expansion teams won their regular season opening games. They would end the season with a combined won-loss record of 237-411.

If the Atlanta Braves reach the World Series this year, it would mean Eric Hinske has reached the World Series in four consecutive seasons...as a member of four different teams!

If Buck Showalter manages the Orioles for the remainder of the year, they will become the first team in history to have three different men manage at least 50 games over the course of a single season.

tony larussa used the same lineup for five consecutive games - from the sweep of the reds ‘til yesterday - the first time as skipper of the cardinals.
that’s in nearly 15 full seasons.
