Some Babes!
Babe & Little Mildred Pinkenfeld
Here's another example of how tricky it can be to date wire photos. You'd think that the picture was taken in September 1928, right? Wrong. After doing some digging, the picture must have been taken sometime in the summer of 1927. Here's a pic of Lou Gehrig with baby Mildred from the July 8, 1927 issue of the Milwaukee Journal. Cheers! ~B
Thanks to all for these great photos of the greatest player to play the game.
Babe & Claire Waiting For The Race
Kentucky Derby - May 2, 1936
As an added bonus, here's the newsreel of the race (sorry, Babe isn't in the footage): "A thrilling race in the 1936 Kentucky Derby as Bold Venture wins."
Babe Readies For A Day Of Fly Fishing
Blairstown, New Jersey - c.1930's
From the Manhattan Sailing Club site: "According to local legend, Babe Ruth used to visit Blairstown, NJ to go fly fishing on a private and secluded section of the Jacksonburg Creek. Babe Ruth's secret fishing hole used to be on the property of Lee Carroll, a former President of the New York Bond Club. He owned this property for 48 years beginning in 1937. Lee was friends with a famous radio sports broadcaster who was friends with Babe Ruth. Lee was also friends with a senior judge in New Jersey who stocked the stream with nice sized trout."

I know that Ty Cobb was an avid hunter and fisherman as well, with these picturesof the Babe fishing it makes me wonder if there are any pictures of Ty and the Babe enjoying the great outdoors together.

Marines' Ouija Says Ruth Will Knock 60 Homers
Boston, MA - July 20, 1920
That Ouija might not be the best predicting device. Ruth hit 54 HR's in 1920 and Gov. Cox lost the election in a landslide. Women did get the vote before 1921 though, with the passing of the 19th Amendment on August 18, 1920.
Long before Ali there was another great athlete known to talk a lot and do a lot.
BSmile, the Bam was more accurate than any Ouija Board.
January 1921 he predicts he will hit 60 in 1921 and only a fluke, a lost home run, left him one short at 59.
Some where I have the entire January article, describes Babe as informing a group of skeptical reporters, makes the claim, turns around and walks away.
Is this guy for real, the more I read about him the more difficult it is to believe he ever existed.
Not speaking of the hand me down stories, speaking of those that can be documented and proven.

Col. Ruppert Arrives Via Airship - c.1930
I'm not sure if Ruppert is bringing bats to Babe and the guys, or if he's taking the bats with him somewhere. I'm guessing that this pic was taken during Spring Training down in Florida.
To My Friend Otto Floto
From "Babe" Ruth - May 18, 1925
I'll let Woody Paige's description of Otto from a 2007 column fill us in on who he was: "In the early 1900s Floto was The Denver Post's sports editor and a drunk, barely literate, loud-mouthed columnist (sounds like a description of that guy in my mirror) who didn't believe in punctuation marks, wrote about fights he secretly promoted on the side, got into shouting matches with legendary Wild West gunman (turned Denver sportswriter) Bat Masterson and penned such headlines as "Local Team Like Sweater: Worsted." He actually had operated a dog-and-pony show and provided rides home in his carriage for The Post's co-owner Harry Tammen, who loved the name "Otto Floto" and gave him a job - and later called the circus the newspaper bought "Sells-Floto." Floto died at 65 in 1929"

Once again great pictures of the Babe. Although I've seen several pictures of Col. Ruppert, I' ve noticed there's not that many of his former partner Tillinghast Huston, does anyone have some to share?
