~ (Wire Tag) “The Babe Tames A Rassler - Babe Ruth (left) 240 pounds, applies his own version of a neck lock to Manuel Cortez, 200, after the Boston grappler refused the Bambino’s warnings against unnecessary roughness in a bout last night in Portland, ME. The Babe made his debut as a wrestling referee in contest between Cortez and Leo Numa, 220, Seattle, the winner. The Babe says he dropped four pounds chasing the ‘rasslers round the ring.”

Today In 1923: The Grand Opening Of Yankee Stadium
    ⚾ View From The Grandstands - April 18, 1923
~ Here's an edit I made for today's anniversary of the first game at the original Yankee Stadium. I incorporated the press pin badge that was issued to newsmen and dignitaries that day. The New York Yankees were victorious over the Boston Red Sox by a score of 4-1, with Babe Ruth appropriately christening the new stadium with its first home run.

Still The “Sultan Of Swat” To His Admirers
78 Yrs Ago Today At Yankee Stadium - April 20, 1937
~ (Wire Tag) “Babe Ruth, whose diamond exploits not so long ago thrilled millions of fans, autographing the score-cards of young worshipers who besieged the box of the home run king as he attended the opening game here in the Yankee Stadium here April 20. Looking on is Mrs. Ruth. The one-time Yankee star, who received the acclaim of a record-equaling inaugural crowd of 45,850, saw his former teammates lose, 3 to 2, to the Washington Senators in the first game of their 1937 American League pennant campaign. For a fan, The Babe also had a perfect field day, when he caught and pocketed Frankie Crosetti’s foul tip into the stands.”
