The Babe Connects Off Walter Johnson
72 Years Ago Today - War Relief Exhibition, Yankee Stadium - August 23, 1942
~ ACME Wire: "Johnson Pitching To Ruth - On a pitch from Walter Johnson, one of baseball's greatest twirlers, King of Swat Babe Ruth finishes up a swing that sent the horsehide to Ruthville - the right field stands - for an official homer. The two baseball veterans staged an exhibition between games of a Yanks-Senator double-header at the Stadium today. Catching the ones The Babe misses is Benny Bengough, Yankee catcher a good many years ago, now coach of the Senators; and calling them is umpire Billy Evans, veteran safe 'n out man. The Babe hit two whoppers - one of them a foul, but he ran around the bases anyway because he knew it was well hit."

Babe Beats The Bass Drum For Bloomfield
    90 Years Ago Today - Yankee Stadium - August 24, 1924
I thought I'd colorize this great pic today for its 90th anniversary. The Yankees lost to the Tigers 7-2, but The Babe managed to clout his 39th HR to go with his eye-popping .390 batting average!

Babe Beholds The Brown Bomber's Bandaged Hands
77 Yrs Ago Today - Pompton Lake, New Jersey - August 25, 1937
~ AP Wire: "Babe Ruth looks over Joe Louis' weapons after Joe hit one for the man who was once known as something of a hitter himself. While The Babe watched Joe spar, Louis leaned over the ropes and remarked, "I'm going to hit one this time for you, Babe." He did, and sparmate Tiger Hairston was dazed. Thursday night he defends his title against Tommy Farr, the boxing pride of England."
