    What a WEIRD photo!!
Seems like Babe could never get any privacy...here he was trying to enjoy breakfast when Jack Dempsey barged in and insisted on playing footsie. How can even Babe say no to a guy who could punch like that?

Yeah, it's a pretty candid photo for sure. Not the typical photo that was staged for The Babe by Christy Walsh, like that 9/15/1923 photo with Jack Dempsey is.

Montague was also supposed to be a strongman as well as tremendously long and accurate with his golf shots...it was said that he could hold the corner of a good sized car up long enough to change the tire.

In what surely must have been a Walsh-staged event, State Senator and future NYC Mayor Jimmy Walker (DY-NO-MITE!!!) gave a speech upbraiding Babe for his behavior during the 1922 season (which featured a lengthy suspension) and asked Babe if he was going to keep letting down those dirty-faced kids who idolized him. Ruth collapsed in tears and swore that he was going back to his farm in Sudbury to get in shape for '23. Babe actually did look much trimmer for that season and hit .393, then led the Yanks to a WS win over the Giants with a bravura performance at the plate (3 HRs, 1.000 slugging).

Babe Ruth & The Philadelphia A’s Swan Song Legends
    Yankee Stadium, 1928
(L-R) Eddie Collins, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth & Tris Speaker
~ This would be the final season as an active player for both Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker. Eddie Collins would hang on longer as a player/coach before retiring in 1930, totaling less than 50 at bats in those final three seasons.

Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Suited Up For Football
87 Yrs Ago Today In Chicago - November 25, 1927
{L-R}: Glenn “Pop” Warner (Stanford coach), Babe Ruth, Knute Rockne (Notre Dame coach), Christy Walsh, Lou Gehrig, Howard Jones (USC coach) & Tad Jones (Yale coach)
~ This fantastic picture was taken before a special dinner held at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago on the night before the Notre Dame-USC football game (Soldiers Field). For the event, agent Christy Walsh (center) managed to put The Babe in a Notre Dame uniform, while Lou was made to wear a USC uniform. They don’t look thrilled…

I first saw this photo many years ago and felt so embarrassed for Babe and Lou...the indignity of being made to eat dinner in those uniforms!!! I can't imagine the coaches were that excited by the baseball guys pretending to be football players, either.
Bad idea, Christy!!! I hope the boys were at least well paid and the chow was good...

Babe Ruth & The Boys At The Big Game
    Soldier Field, Chicago - November 26, 1927
~ It was 87 years ago today that Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig took in the Notre Dame vs. USC football game before an estimated crowd of 120,000. Nobody was probably louder than those boys right behind Babe & Lou, who were sitting on the Notre Dame bench as coach Knute Rockne’s guests. (ND won, 7-6).
