I know a couple of NFL stadiums expanded in hopes of getting the superbowl like Jacksonville and SD and both have to use tarps for regular season games. But Toronto doesn't tarp baseball set up like the A's do right?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

Owners used to pack in the crappy seats so that the network is forced to buy them so that they can broadcast the game. NFL rule for only sellouts to be on TV.
Saw that there are two exceptions for the blackout rule in the NFL. The second is for Toronto:
The second exception is for the Bills Toronto Series; by a technicality, Rogers Communications (the team's lessee) owns all tickets to those games and resells them to potential fans. Thus, even if the games do not sell out, it is still technically a sellout (since Rogers is said to have bought the tickets) and the games are televised. This rule has come into play for both Toronto Series preseason games

Qwest Field hadn't been completed yet. Husky Stadium wouldn't have been a good ho$t venue bc it lacked suites and a prominent downtown location for traveling fans from both schools to spend their cash. Plus the novelty of playing one game at Safeco was sort of cool. The next few Emerald Bowls played at Qwest were snoozers, thus the bowl game was cancelled or moved to another city, I can't remember which.

That's a lot of field level seating. Talk about bad sight lines...
Looks like Joe Robbie with the recent Wrestlemania:

Do they even sell upper deck seating for an event like Wrestlemania?
Also, have they scrapped plans to reconfigure the lower bowl now that the Marlins are gone? I remember reading that they were going to do a Superdome style expansion to remove dead space on the field by bringing the sideline seats closer to the action.
It was moved to AT&T Park.

Yes they do sell upper deck seating. The only area where they didn't sell was the area in the lower deck behind the stage setup.
They haven't scrapped those plans but they are wanting to get the taxpayers to pay for it.
Basketball on the dirt? Yee Haw! Suprised they don't have milk crate baskets too. Jebus.

in response to wrestle mania @ JRS -
you'd think those idiotic palm trees would not be necessary. I understand the need to rig lighting and a cover for the ring but surely it could have been suspended with cables? JRS has a completely level upper deck (sans the video boards) where cables could have been mounted all the way around (or even on the light towers themselves.) seems like bad planning / laziness to me. if I had bought a ticket for that event I would have been pissed.
edit: here is some other photos that I found via GIS
