B, These are spectacular!
I recall reading in Cobb's autobiography that he pulled a trick when his team was being photographed for a panaramic picture. As soon as the camera moved and took his picture on one side of the line, he darted around the photographer and went into line on the other side and had his picture taken twice. Do you happen to have a copy of that picture? Is it in existence?
Great job as always.

Spectacular indeed!
The first panoramic of the Dodgers, formerly the Superbas/Trolley Dodgers, provides a great photographic record of the legendary Majestic Hotel - one of Little Rock's famous spa hotels, where many of the early greats took a dip or two during Spring training.

Thank you so very much for posting these fabulous, fantastic, glorious images. This is eye candy of a most supreme plane. God will amply reward you for liberating these beauties from their former dungeons of obscurity, where they were languishing!
On behalf of baseball fans everywhere, I thank you from the bottom of my black little heart. Thank you a million times for sharing these glorious images of our addiction.
This is glory. The Power and The Glory.

This is the first picture I've seen that makes it clear just how bowlegged Wagner was...holy cow!!!
Great photos, everybody...I'm loving every single one of them!!
EDIT - who's the 9 foot tall guy in the back row towards the right in the '36 Pirates photo??

Forgive me if I keep repeating myself. I just cannot get enough of these enlarged, pristine images. And I don't think I ever will. To see these images in enlarged size, in such gorgeous, pristine resolution, is like coming across a pot of gold coins just sitting in the middle of the road, with no one else to claim it.
I search far and wide to find this level of baseball beauty, but can seldom ever find them. I've said it before, and please forgive the comparison, but I find these images from a bygone universe more psychologically exciting and compelling than porn. This feeds my childhood addiction. These shots are the most seductive images in the world.
I especially savor the enlarged, panoramic shots of the stadiums. Is there anything more beautiful than a ballpark, packed with fans?
I would love it if we can ever discover the enlarged, panoramic photo of the Tim Murnane death benefit game. The team photos have special historical value.
This thread is such a treasure, and not only because I am obsessed with baseball photos. Just have inherent amazing value of a culture that can never have a value placed on it. :applaud::applaud::applaud::clapping

This is some work of art, thank you BSMILE. Really digging the great shots of the parks, some I have never seen in that much fullness. More old park pics to add to my collection.

You, my friend, are a baseball fan.
This quote itself oddly compelling. In fact, your entire post is, what is a good word ?, delectable works. Your entire post is delectable. I feel the past-time passion in your words. I sense, like myself you are unable to mearly look at these images. They can only be lingered over, savored.
There is so much to drink in. Who are we without our past ? What mysteries lie in history ?
Each shot has captured details of the era and it's human lives that shaped this sport we love so much. Look at the team Docter from the '33 All Star game. His black bag. When have any of us ever seen a Dr carry around one of those ? A '41 Fenway outfield fence sign "Read and Heed" for Air-Raid sirens. You think you have anxiety in your own life ? Thats a real living breathing cop flasing a nite-stick at the '10 WS in Philly, not a still from a Hollywood movie. What was Mossey's job with the '33 A's ? Too old to be a bat boy. Old grizzled clubhouse guy, maybe ? The men scattered around the stands behind the '27 Yankees. Bookies ? Reporters ? Spoiled rich kid in the argyle sweater ? I could spend hours looking at these people. The '33 Yanks really loved their Brill Cream. How could you play with all that grease on your head ? An Old-Timers game from 1921 ? That really puts the 'Old" in Old-Timer. More than that, they were amatures. Seems like it was all about the game itself. Can you imagine a stadium full of Met & Yankee fans comming out to honor something less than "Major League", "Real" players ? I could ramble on some more, for so much has struck me in these exsquisite images, but I won't. Besides, I'm 'working'.
Keep these comming until the last one has been resurected. They're full of baseball, and they're full of America, two entities I love so much. Even more than porn.

Bill Burgess; April 4, 2008, 01:38 PM
You remind me of myself. I love these images for 100 reasons. I love the 1880-1930 era, even apart from baseball. The pride people took in what they made. People signed their products. Took pride in their craftsmanship, before machine made assembly line products. You pride yourself in what you do with your own hands. And in baseball you do it all with your own hands.
I love the way BSmile posts because he takes great pride in his craftsmanship in how he presents these images. He actually improves them, with his own hands. He never ever crops. I hate it when people crop the images they show me. They steal part of that world when they trim the edges off photos. Images are all we still have left of that bygone universe, and cropping steals some of it. Hate that.
Like you, I also savor the little details. The clothes, artifacts, signage on billboards.
One photo says, "Baseball Stories by (Charles) Dryden and Si (Sanborn) this season in the (Chicago)Tribune." Those were 2 of their stud sports writers, famed in their day and completely forgotten today. But not by me!
I love this thread so much, that when I see names, I try to provide BSmile with logistical support by listing the players with their positions. Anything to show support and confer enhanced value to this precious thread.
I don't know why baseball has such a hold on my subconscious, but I just surrender to it and let it keep me out of trouble. This hobby is not expensive and I could do a lot worse.
Don't get me wrong. I have always believed that the most beautiful thing that God ever created is the nude female form. But a very, very close second to that are clean, pristine baseball images from the past. My friends all tell me that I live too much in the past, and maybe that is true. But for some reason that I've never been able to figure out, it always feels good, always feels fresh, and makes me feel good inside. Baseball is like the 60's/70's rock music I was raised on. I get kidded for still loving that too. But it still makes me feel good inside! What can I do?
And as long as that happens, I will be true to my first love - baseball. It is innocent, simple, pure, timeless, eternally interesting, and stimulating.
Sometimes, our girlfriends complain that we guys are immature for still loving our childhood hobby. And maybe they are right. If they knew how right they really are, they might never stop complaining! Oh well.
I hope BSmile never stops posting these phenomenal images of our collective obsession. As long as he does, I will keep gazing dreamily at them, in my own little rapture!

I have never been into photography or cameras. I know nothing of that art. But BSmiles' honest work to improve these images is art. High art. Very high art.
And the images are also art. To me. BSmiles' work in finding, organizing and archiving these photographs is IMPORTANT. What is showcased here on Fever is given, via google.images, to the world.
In support of this important work, I will try, where the names are available, to write them out above the photos. Having them typed out, with positions, confers enhanced value on this precious work.
BSmiles, you are accomplishing a supremely good achievement here. This value cannot be over-estimated. You are doing more than your part to make Baseball Fever a uniquely advanced Baseball website. Kudos. Since you and George H. Ruth found us, I have been one very happy, satisfied fan.
Please, keep searching. Keep looking. The eyes of Fever are on you, my friend. You're discovering gold. Long-buried treasure.

Hi BSmile,
This is my first reply so hopefully I havent broken any rules by my question. I collect panoramic prints like the ones you have posted. Yours are amazing!! I really like the Yankees pans. Can you tell me where I might find more of these pans this large. Are there any sites I can go to besides the LOC? Do you have anymore you can post? I cant print them very big but at least I would have them for my home. Can you help or is my request out of line? Thanks so much ..... Babefan

BS - I understand and I want to thank you for sharing what you have taken so long to find. I can actually see in some sort of strange way, that half of the enjoyment of seeing these masterpieces is found in the hunt for them. So I will continue to look and of course check back here to see what else you have in store for us. And if you find any Yankee pans from 36 - 39 I will put my search on hold and just "Smile" .... I'm still smiling!!! That is an awesome photo! Even the wife loved it!! And if you ever get that 1937 - 38 sepia looking photo of a moment in the Yankees dugout where you see McCarthy, Gehrig, Dimaggio, and a few of the other boys sitting & watching and its a good large size, please post it. The only image I have of it is weak, grainy, and looks horrible in my den. BUT!!! Its still my Yanks so it stays until I get a clearer one. Thanks again for the visual & the lesson .... Babefan

Cant talk right now cause I'm framing this 37 Yankees photo!! What a beauty! My copies arent that great but there is no mistaken who these players are. God what a beautiful photo!! Thanks so much BS!! Just checked my calendar and sure enough ..... there is a xmas in May somewhere! I'll be watching daily now! Cant wait to see the other panoramics.

What a GREAT photo of Joe! I just love the look and history of the 36 - 39 Yankees. Thanks so much for posting this pic and any others you may find. Have you ever seen a large size panoramic with Joe Dimaggio in it BS? I would love to have one of those. Thanks for your work in here. Its fun to see whats coming next .... Babefan.

I run to the car after work, drive like a bat out of hell home, turn on the computer to see what BSmile has left for us today, and then I just take it all in. These new pans are just fantastic! The 38 Yankee pic is WOW! BS you need to post a pic of your home so we can see the treasures you have hanging there. Thanks so much for bringing some fun to all of us who go giddy for this kind of thing. Whats next? 1936 Yankee panoramic that is 8 ft wide? ....... Babefan

This is how most of us feel, Babefan. I always hope that BS and George Ruth have goodies to WOW us today. Like candy at the end of a long day. OOOHHH. I hope, I hope, I hope for some new exciting eye-candy. More psychologically exciting than porn!
One could search forever on googe to find what this one thread has! It's all in knowing where TO LOOK. Wish I knew where to look but BS/George won't tell me.

Damn. I just joined this site and I spent the last 2 hours plus lost in these wonderful photos. I never realized how big of a man Rube Waddell was (or the 1909 St. Louis Browns were really small).
One thing I enjoyed was reading the outfield advertising sings. Loved the one for "Dog and Puppy" bread in the 1912 photo of Fenway. Right above Pureoxia Ginger Ale!
Thanks for the pics!!

Great job and PLEASE ..... keep them coming!!! - Babefan

Absolutely!...this is a great picture, like all the other ones you've posted. I've studied these early Pirate teams a bit, so for me this is a real treat. Thanks so much...we're all luvin' it!
And I think you're probably right...This is most likely the 1903 "Defending" National League Champions of 1904.

Thanks so very, very much Gary! You just don't know how much I appreciate all your hard work. In support of BSmiles I have tried to keep up with him in posting a summary of names/positions captioning for those team posts which give us the names.
--------------------------------------------------------
GaryL; May 18, 09:04 AM
You got it Bill!...That's all I needed to hear - that you guys need some help. I love the challenge of trying to put names with faces on old basball photos.
Glad to pitch in after all the hard work and wonderful job that you guys have done for us.
Wow!...This thread, along with Bill's Historic Archival Photos thread, are real treasures. Those of us who love the "Old Days" of baseball are eternally grateful to both of you! I doubt there's a better collection of old baseball photos anywhere.

It takes a little more time, but once a team is 'done', it's done permanently, for all of us to use in the future. That's the logistical support I'm trying to give BSmiles, since he's doing the yeoman work of doing the searches, touching up the photos, and posting these fantastic images.
And just in case anyone doubts it, these images will serve as a magnet to the whole baseball fandom community. Word of mouth is going out and our numbers are swelling, thanks to BSmiles and George H. Ruth!!!
So, this is the least we can do to show our mutual, collective appreciations to them both!!

Must say we had quite a good day today. We started with over 10 posts that lacked our usual summary matrix, and my partner Gary (GaryL) & I knocked them out like assembly line! Now that's what I call TEAMWORK!
BSmile is the hero of this thread. A photo search genius. Yes, you heard me right. Here's how genius was once broken down to me, by my dance teacher, Wilson Morelli, many years ago in the 70's, when I was a dancer.
He said, "Billy. Talented people can do what others can't, and geniuses can do what talented people can't."
I'm no photo search slouch myself, and my Historical, Archival Photographs thread proves it. But BSmiles and George H. Ruth have exceeded my photo finding skills, and this thread and others proves that. And it's not just photo search skills. BSmiles also possesses unparrelled photo-editing skills to match.
He finds great material, and then works his editing magic on them and voila! The whole world now has wondrous imagery from a bygone era that it didn't have before. Now I can that magic.
So, we now have a thread index, at the bottom of post 1, and a thread feedback post, and now we are caught up with our captioning, too. Now I call that a good day. And I can't wait to see what this week will bring!
Goodnight Fever princes. Sleep well. You have earned it.

This may be the finest collection of 20th Centurty baseball team pictures in existence! What makes it unique is that there are, I believe, over 150 team pictures available at one easily accessed location, with the vast majority of the players in the pictures identified. I doubt that a collection like this exists anywhere else.
All who have contributed to this fabulous collection are to be commended, especially BSmile for making his prized collection available to us; and Bill Burgess for devoting his unlimited energy and vast organizational skills to the project. All of us here at Baseball Fever who love the game and its gloried past are very fortunate and owe them a debt of gratitude. They have also done a great service to future generations of baseball fans.

I apologize for my slowness in getting things caught up. It is impossible to keep up with BSmile as he rampages on with these team photos. And with a resolution of imagery which is stupefying.
I would not have thought it possible to capture the clarity, crispness in the imagery, of photos from the 19th Century. So rare to see images this clean. How BSmile finds them, will be his continuing mystery. Enigma Man! But his talent is the world's (and our) gain.

As I've said before, this may very well be the best collection of historical baseball team pictures - with most of them identified - in existence! If there's a better collection somewhere, I'd like to know where it is!

As far as there being a better reference for historical team pictures...it's obvious that nobody's even close (at least online). Cheers to all of us for our collective efforts...that bring truth and clarity to the history of baseball.

Are you using a scanner with a large glass flatbed, BSmile. I just would like to know how you're getting these unbelievable images.
Normally, when you blow up an image, it distorts, just a little. But you are getting results of such pristine resolution that I can't fathom how you're doing it. What's your secret?

My contributions have mostly been organizational, which is mostly time-consuming, but not as painstaking as faces. Forever tipping my hat to you wonderful gentlemen.
The Fever family is just that to me. Our bonds mean more to me than you suspect.

I also use the "year in review" section to see what went on that particular year. And to be honest I hope I never ever get to the end of this thread. I'm especially intrigued by the late 1800's and 1st quarter of the 1900's. Combine your love of history and your love for baseball and you get this thread right here. To me this thread is an escape, a time capsule, look at those old gloves, they're barely padded! You guys are doing an awesome job, keep up the good work because this thread is truly priceless and one day will go down in the baseball thread hall of fame.
