        There's very little info about this squad on BB-Ref, except for Smead Jolley who later batted .305 in a short 4 year major league career. Smead actually seemed to prefer the minor leagues where he managed to collect 3,043 hits and a .367 BA in 16 seasons. Maybe he would have been a Hall Of Famer had he chosen to play in the big leagues...we'll never know. What we do know is that he was a truly terrible fielder, so maybe that was a factor as well in the days before the DH.

        1925 Corsicana Oilers;

        Top Row, L-R: John Van (C/Mgr.), Grubb (3B), Smead Jolley (OF/P), Etheridge (OF), Kizziar (1B), Lovelace (OF), Hilton (P), Ruth (UT).

        Bottom Row, L-R: Dashiel (SS), Barnhart (P), Mizell (C), Shomaker (IF), Cantrell (P), Malmquist (2B).
        Absent from photo: Mike Schmid (P).

            Here's a beautiful team shot that I just finished editing...and it's a big one! Make sure you check it out full-sized for the amazing uniform details. Also, just about every guy here has played in the major leagues at some point, some more than others.

                            Former major league player and Exporters manager Steve O'Neill actually inserted himself into a game in 1942. He was 50 years old at the time...and went 1 for 3! As the starting catcher for the World Champion 1920 Cleveland Indians, O'Neill had a .321 BA with a .408 OBP (he also hit .333 in that World Series).
