Panama has announced provisional 53-man roster (in Spanish)
South Korea released a revised provisional roster today. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/bu...s)#South_Korea for details - I think Baseball-Reference is the first to have the full list in English
I've been trying to keep Baseball-Reference's WBC roster site up to date. We now have bios for every member of Japan's preliminary roster, 51 of 53 Panamanians, 31 of 32 South Koreans and over half the Italians. We also have bios for the full coaching/managerial staffs from Australia, Taiwan and Italy.

Only question -- Markakis (LH, RF) or Matt Halladay (RH, LF) do we need another righty or should we go with the extra lefty!? I like Markakis, because I don't have a genuine RF on the roster. I am starting Hamilton in RF. Markakis is a LF/RF sub. Berkman is a 1B/LF/RF sub, too!
Lee declines an invitation.

^^ And btw, according to the Chicago Tribune, Derrick Lee is expected to accept the invite for the United States.
Impossible is Nothing.
MLB Network will air World Baseball Classic Tonight Roster Special on Monday, January 19 at 18:00.
The two biggest surprises perhaps are:
1) The absence of Alexei Bell, last season's MVP and a star in the Beijing Olympics. On the other hand, Bell has been an absolute bust in 2008-2009, hitting only .232 with 3 HR. He was injured early in the year and 2007-2008 was far better than anything he had done before. A one-year wonder perhaps? This doesn't seem so crazy when you look at this season.
2) The presence of Danny Betancourt. He starred in the 2005 Baseball World Cup but barely pitched in the three seasons from 2005-2008. In 2008-2009, he has rebounded somewhat but 6-3, 3.95 really isn't that impressive. I don't get it. There are much better Cuban pitchers available.

I haven't seen Canada's official roster but I heard today that former big leaguer Corey Koskie will be on the club (source: Minneapolis News Station).
It's true about Italians as well, my grandfather's family was born in Italy and his close family still live in Italy and I am very proud to be part-Italian, even if it is only a quarter. I will be cheering for Italy every game other than when they play Canada of course![]()
