I hope Griffey doesn't come back. Hopefully the new GM will think better of this and give the spot to someone who deserves it.

Griffey looks really bad at the plate these days. Waving at the low and away. Not able to catch up with the heat inside. It's over. I hope he doesn't come back and stink it up. Then what ?

Perhaps the Mariners will bring him back as one of those one-day contracts, so he can technically retire in a Mariners uniform.

As a player, he'll do something good for the team maybe one out of every five games or so. He could draw fans, but is that the biggest concern right now? It was great seeing him in Cincinnati and I always rooted for him when he was playing, but he is not a viable option outside of the occasional pinch hit now.

Does he deserve to be reduced to that?

Just as a pure baseball fan it pains me to see the Ken Griffey play today. Was this what it was like watching Willie Mays in 1973?

Did you see that throw he had from CF in the playoffs? Right on the money!

One good play does not still a good player make.

Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but with his cartilage and meniscus surgically repaired, Griffey would resemble the '07 version in '09 rather than the '08 version. Nobody expects him to hit 56 home runs again. Maybe he still has at least 1 more 25 homer year in him.

It really doesn't matter how good Griffey is, unless we think we have some chance of competing.

What matters is if he'll draw fans, that we don't over pay to get him, etc.

It doesn't matter how good he'll be ? All that matters is that he draws fans ? It is this backward thinking that has the Mariners in the shape they are in now. I believe Big Z has the brains not to make this deal. We allready have one prima donna in the outfield. No sense having two. How about Griffey's former team member for the Reds, Dunn. A left handed power hitting first baseman. He can make Safeco look small.

Dunn has no chance on signing with Seattle. Griffey will retire a Seattle Mariner one way or another.

Try quoting someone correctly without the cute editing. In fact, I've heard a rumor on ESPN that Dunn's agent was talking to a high ranking M's official last week.

ESPN isn't a viable source for baseball information. : Especially during football season.

The guy's almost 40 years old. There's almost no way he's going to be part of any serious rebuilding effort. If he's brought in, it should be because it will attract fans without costing us much. He's a great fan-pleaser. If he comes back for one last season, and we don't pay much for him, things should be fine.

I want him back. I like the way he plays . I'd be in favor of a 1 year contract so he could retire a Mariner. This is what the front office and all the fans want - a sure fire Hall of Famer they can call their own.
Griffey's presence in Seattle in '09, will not effect what happens in '11 and beyond. It won't be detrimental to the rebuilding process.

If Griffey Jr. doesn't retire, he will play in the American League. Seattle is the logical choice. Griffey no longer will be the man. This is why he is considering the Mariners. He would rather play in familiar territory, than play 7th fiddle on a contender. He doesn't want to be Luis Sojo. A replaceable part. Seattle will be home. Deja Vu in more ways than one. I love women.

    Old left handed batters

Griffey or Giambi. The Mariners seem intent on signing at least 1 old lefty hitter. Giambi does frequent strip joints , that's a plus. Griffey is the best Mariner ever. They are both old. : Which to choose?

Griffey is still my favorite but I don't think they should bring him back. Unless its CHEAP. We need to get players for the future. I'm getting tired of rooting for a 100 loss team.

"Frequenting strip joints" is a plus? How does that work? It doesn't help their on-the-field performance, or help anyone in any way.

They also said at the beginning of the season that the Ms would win the world series, never take anything they say seriously.
