Despite the on-going demolition, Yankee Stadium still stands proud. Even in it's current state, Yankee Stadium has a more intimate feel than (New) Yankee Stadium.

By intimate feel, you mean a feel that an old stadium being put down in what was essentially an inevitable step? Then yes.
funny how the construction workers were able to take millions of pics during the building of the new stadium but jack squat during the demo
Good point. Worthy of a 60 Minutes investigative report. Morley Safer...are you still around?
i'd be willing to say that the Yankees organization are clearly ashamed that they have to demolish such an historic building, they want as little pictures taken of it as possible.

as long as you do "thats" all that matters
every time you Met fans come into bash "they" at least I get a good laugh
To be honest I would not be wasting my time on here writing about the "they" you suppose you know about- but writing to the Mets to put up a pic of there "69" and "86" teams somewhere in citifield
this thread always digreses into a whine fest when you guys come on
I believe the purpose of this thread is to analyze what parts are coming down and there unique history- not to beat the worn out "what a shame line" over and over and over![]()
As I followed the progress of SheaStadium demo I felt that I was no longer a Yankee Fan, but a NEW YORK fan standing in solidarity with Mets fans as their home was torn apart. I know they can and will return the favor as we watch OYS come slowly down.
I sincerely hope everyone on(and off) B-F can do the same thing as these historic places vanish.

Absolutely.
Now, just like on the Shea Demo thread, there would be the occasional smart-ass fans (Yankee & other) who will troll the thread, just to stir up some trouble. But, the overwhelming majority of Yankee fans who posted there were respectful & supportive of the Mets fans plight. They came curious about how the building would be taken down & by the end of the demolition process, most of them seemed to form a bit of a bond with the Mets fans who posted there. Those Mets fans who did post there were the minority who liked/loved Shea Stadium & were sorry that she was being reduced to a pile of rubble. Those Mets fans now know the pain of seeing a 'piece of their childhood' ripped apart & tossed away. They can definitely relate to what Yankee fans are dealing with currently, & will continue to deal with, until the last wall is taken down.

In all seriousness, is there not one Yankee fan out there with a camera and a MetroCard?
If it weren't for WCBS and Met fan Gary D., we'd still be wondering when the grass is being removed!

the problem is that there really arent any views that one can stand and take pictures of. nothing has been done to exterior part of the building until just recently, and thats only apart of the escalator structure. give it time dude, when they really start going to work, youll see pictures.

Unless you want the same photos of the exterior sheathing, there are few reasons to take pictures at this point. There is a concerted effort to keep photos of the demolition to a minimum. We're stuck with lo-res aerials. And rest assured hired goons will attempt to limit photo ops once the outer walls start coming down, in the name of "public safety".
{Move along.........there's nothing to see here}![]()

Since I know nothing about the architecture and some of you seem to...a question. Are the cables pointed to below holding the upper deck in place? Does the UD collapse inward if they're taken out? I know a lot of the original structural steel remains in place lower down, but is there so much weight above that it would rotate, or would they have to do some cutting of that steel beforehand?
Examine Below:
Anything "blue" is stuff added/modified in the 1970s. The Additonal rows blance the old deck left of that new blue column. The cables running diagonally downward attach to a box-beam counterweight ring running around the full perimter of the new roof of the upper concourse. That combo serves to keep the upper deck from tipping forward under occupied/live loads. Original columns(to the left) in this photo no longer existed after 1975.
If you cut *some cables* it will still stand up, albeit precariously so.
Here, I posted the completed job for a good look at it complete.
