…Ruth would be a valuable asset if he could be fitted in somewhere as a regular. This pitcher is the most natural batsman who has broken into the game since Ty Cobb.” ----------------------------------------------- The Sporting Life 8/14/15
"Ruth's homers are the longest that I have ever seen. Others hit home runs, too, but we must wait for them to drop before we are sure of them. When Ruth's hits leave the bat, there is no doubt of their mileage." - Connie Mack

Lefty did come in relief, 7th inning, second game July 5, 1926.
But he first faced Gehrig, then Ruth, both struck out, he finished that game.

On that day it was morning afternoon DH. Lefty beat Yanks 2-1 first game, struck 12. Babe pinch hit in the 9th inning of that first game, did not get a hit but was not struck out either.

Surprised at how often Lefty came in relief.
April 14, 1927. Pitched only the 10th inning, game ended 9-9, darkness. Don't know if he faced Babe. Lefty had one strikeout but it wasn't Babe, no SO and one BB.

September 27, 1927. Lety in relief in 5th inning, gives up one run.
Sixth inning, one hit,two walks loads bases.
    Grand slam, Babe's 57th, Yanks win 7-4.
