I went to LC's once, and was unimpressed. Had to wait forever to get served, too. But to each his own...

My sister is a security officer at the middle school.
Royals Hall of Famer Frank White attended Lincoln, and he and his buddies used to watch Royals games at Municipal for free from the top of the school's football bleachers, which overlooked the third base side of the stadium. Would've been a great vantage point for Chiefs games there, too, I would think, staring straight down into the west end zone.

Just goes to show that whoever wrote that song had probably never even been to K.C. Even if 12th & Vine did intersect, any "crazy little women" you might encounter there ain't the kind you'd want to take home to Mom...

    yup

That's what my dad and his friends and siblings used to do.

Used to go to A's games when they were here, too.

They used to intersect, now it's just a random street sign is all that is left of the infamous corner.

These have to be the best photos I've ever seen in this forum. Dayum, this is all so mouth-watering.

KC rocks for BBQ, steakhouses and Strouds, the best fried chicken and chops on earth. Good Italian was somewhat limited, at least when I was living there about 20 years ago.

Gates and Bryants was always a tossup for me. I'd usually go with Gates, because it was closer and I didn't have to worry about getting my car broken into.

I would have loved to have seen the KC Chiefs, before Arrowhead, tearing into some Bryants BBQ after afternoon practice at Municpal Stadium. The Chiefs were one of the first teams to have the monster size linemen, Buck Buchanan, Ernie Ladd, Curley Culp, Jim Tyrer, EJ Holub...I'd bet they could put away some ribs.

Coming to Kansas City and not having either the fancy Jack Stack with their amazing burnt ends and the beans to die for, or going to the old convenience store that is now Oklamoma Joe's and feeling sleazy and dirty while eating some of the best food in town is unlawful almost here.

I had season tickets at Arrowhead one season when it was the Kenney vs Blackledge QB wars. Don't laugh !

Anyway, I once heard Merlin Olsen say that the first time the LA Rams played the Chiefs, he could not believe how @#%$& big they were !

I was a Bryants fan, my friends were Gates fans. My old girlfriend (glad my wife stays off BF!) loved Haywards....yuck. I never cared for Zarda. Once in a while went to Luther's near Bannister Mall (now there was a mall that saw it all in about 20 years time). Oh, the memories.

Does anyone recall a BBQ place in Johnson County around 63rd St ? It was run by an older fellow who claimed he gave Hayward his start, and though Hayward lost sight of good BBQ (he actually said the next time he saw him his foot was headed for his @$$). The sauce tasted just like Gates.

There was also a joint near Southwest Blvd for decent BBQ.

As for Italian, I used to go to NE KC, up above Scimec's (sp??). Hey, its been many years !

LOL...this is true. I wouldn't make a habit of it, but I'd probably eat enough in one sitting to make my readings go out of whack for a while.

I also recommend Smoke Stack on 89th & Wornall -- it's run by the same people who run Jack Stack (Fiorella).

Actually it's two different sides of the family. Some split off of the Smoke Stack side and created Jack Stack.

Smoke Stack is basically Jack Stack but about at least $5 on everything.

Can you get bad BBQ anywhere in KC? Stopped at the Bandanna's chain in St. Louis, saw they had one in KC too, and it was still a heck of a lot better than anything in MN.

KC Masterpiece on the Plaza was pure ass.

Rosedale isn't good, either. Probably the blandest BBQ I've ever eaten.

IMHO, Zarda and Hayward's are over priced and overrated. I admit I have not been there in many years, but I did not like those places at all.

BTW, I checked Gates web site and they don't have a store on the Paseo anymore? I thought it was around 47th and Paseo. It has been quite a while.

You're close on the Italian place--it's Scimeca's. The place on Southwest Blvd. you're probably thinking of is Rosedale's.

    yep on scimeca's and rosedale's...

    crossroads lyrics:
    by Robert Johnson(via eric clapton)

I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees.
I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees.
Asked the Lord above for mercy, "Save me if you please."

I went down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride.
I went down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride.
Nobody seemed to know me, everybody passed me by.

I'm going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side.
I'm going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side.
You can still barrelhouse, baby, on the riverside.

You can run, you can run, tell my friend-boy Willie Brown.
You can run, you can run, tell my friend-boy Willie Brown.
And I'm standing at the crossroads, believe I'm sinking down.

Bryants has been a disppointment for years.

The only good thing about them is their portions.
