In past years when I assumed I'd be in the playoffs I would have taken him with my 4th rounder or possibly even my 3rd.
I also thought about taking Monty. He was a beloved figure on the early '70s Red Sox. But I already have all the catching I need for a while.

Good time to do that. The first pick in the 72 draft has to be Mike Schmidt - a true franchise player if ever there was one.

I got the Orphans' first in 1973, so I'm aiming for Brett, who's almost as good, with Winfield as a stronger consolation prize than Rick Reuschel.

    Wrapping up the draft

    --I'd like to give everyone a chance to get their 5th rounder in before the draft closes. Here is the timetable (sooner, of course, if BB gets his pick in);

    72) Brawlers: on clock til 7PM EST
    73) River rats: on clock til 710
    74) Shoeless Joes: on clock til 720
    75) Thunder: on clock til 730
    76) Cloverleafs: on clock til 740
    77) Knights: on clock til 750
    78) Gamblers: on clock til 759
--the Hard Cider and Legends have already passed on their picks. No picks will be allowed as of the start of the auction at 8PM tonight. Anybody left will be eligible for free agent bidding.

Joe Lis provides great emergency usage at 1B/OF for 71/72 while posting a solid regular backup role in 1973. We'll take him.

--I can be almost certain the Orphans won't be contending for the worst record in 1972. They already have 3 rotation spots locked up with - 2 with 250 IP/120 ERA+ SP. They got solid players under contract (all but FP Darrell Evans very cheap) at C, 2B, SS, 3B and one OF spot with 2 firsts in the 71 draft and plenty of money to fill the rest of the roster.

I will use my last makeup on Ken Wright.
Hey, this is my public apology for suddenly disappearing and missing out on any projects I may have neglected.

Oh I thought we were all on clock at the same time for some reason...

Didn't the River Rats post they were done drafting? Did I imagine that?

--If they did, I did't catch it. If you can find the post then your pick is good and we can move forward.

I went back a few threads and didn't see it so I must have been wishing it true. If he's available when I pick, Shoeless will take McKinney. If the River Rats take him, I will skip my 5th round pick.
