    All Time Draft #5 Draft

    Draft Order:

    1. SamtheBravesFan
    2. mwiggins
    3. Erik Bedard
    4. buzzaldrin
    5. Tyrus4189Cobb
    6. The Splendid Splinter

    Teams:
25 players like usual... We will have a DH. You can pick your own manager and stadium whenever you want.

    Draft Time Limit:
We'll go at on our pace since it's only 5 teams, but I would like to make it like 8 hours with dead time like we done the past couple times.

    Criteria:
We'll be using top 7 year peak. They have to be in a row. There will be a few exceptions (exception like Hank Greenberg, WW2 guys, etc...) It'll still be 7 years for starting pitchers, but only 4 years for a reliever.

    Requirements:
Only MLB players. Ignore "steroid issues". I think everybody knows how well each players does on defense. Let go with 1890 to present when picking for the years.

    Trade:
    You can trade players.

    Roster Page:
I'll put one up right before we start the draft. Also, I would like us to put like a summary at the end of our roster page if you want. It's kinda gonna be an analysis on how/why/what stat or list you went by on draft and also why you think your team is the best... You can do that part whenever you want, but I would require it would be done before the manager/stadium draft is completed.

    Tournament Polls:
As for the poll at the end for the draft... I was thinking of a poll with all 5 teams and let voters pick the best team.

This post will be the post where we have everything that we decided on for each part of the draft/tournament. I will make this the first post in the draft thread so we can look at it. If anybody has any questions or want to make changes, ask in the discussion thread... Good luck to everyone and Lets have some fun doing this.

Actually, I think they were about the same because I lettered in all sports, and I was a two-time state decathlon champion.

My sophomore year I placed 2nd, and my junior and senior year - I got smart and piled up enough points between myself and second place where I didn't have to run the mile.

Pghfan is skipped... mwiggins it's your turn to pick, hopefully we can get going on this draft

if Pghfan doesn't pick by the time it comes back to him in the 2nd round, then he will be dropped from the draft...

Usually we go 8 hours for a pick... I'm giving a little leeway here because there's 7 of us and it's the first round... I don't really enforce the time limit until we start the 3rd round and we know who is actually doing this draft.

I added another year to 1951 because he missed '45 so you just had 6 years. I figured you would rather have his '51 season than the '43 but let me know if you want '43 instead of '51.

I have a question- how does it work with players who played more than one position during their peak. Say three years starting at one, three years at another, and another year starting at a third. Where can we put them? Can we choose? And how does it work with corner outfielders? I mean, most of them spent at least some time in the corner that they didn't play the most games in, or started a few years in left and a few in right. Where do they go?

Alright... let me give an example here. We'll use Pedro Guerrero '82-'88 peak. Now he qualifies for 1B/3B/LF/RF. '88 mainly played 1B. '87 played LF. '83 and '84 played 3B. '82 played RF. Now he played some CF (74 games) in that peak, but doesn't qualifies at that position. I think I gave another example of Pete Rose in the discussion thread and I'll add it on here as well. Here's what I said...

Also I need to talk about the position eligibility... We're sticking to their main positions in the 7 years you pick. For example... say you wanted to pick Alex Rodriguez and you pick 2001-2007 as his peak, then you can put him at either SS or 3B. That's pretty straight-forward. If you pick Pete Rose from 1968 to 1974, then he can only play LF/RF but not 1B/2B/3B... BUT if you went 1969-1975 for Rose, then he gain 3B eligibility along with LF/RF... This is only for the starters though. Bench players can play wherever they have in their career. If you have questions about that, let me know...

For your example... he can play at any of those 3 positions. You can choose. Corner outfielders is the only positions where they can switch because of what you said (most of them played both).

Actually, I think they were about the same because I lettered in all sports, and I was a two-time state decathlon champion.

My sophomore year I placed 2nd, and my junior and senior year - I got smart and piled up enough points between myself and second place where I didn't have to run the mile.

cool cool. Hey, Splinter, can i ask you a favor? You seem to be on the boards a lot- can you send PMs to people when it's their turn (if you're not already doing so)? I find it difficult to wait to assemble my army of baseball Gods.

Yeah I am on a lot. I'm waiting for STBF to get on AOL so I can tell him it's his turn to pick and Pghfan is not playing as he hasn't picked yet so he will be dropped. Another thing you can do is to when you make your pick... say the next people name that it's their turn to pick now since some people will just look at who you pick and then not know that it's their turn but if you say his name, he'll go ahead and make his pick

Also after STBF pick and we'll be in the third round, I'll start to be strict with the time limit and send PMs or post something on here saying who's turn it is and how much time they have left and whatnot. The time limit will be 8 hours and we'll have dead time as well and I think we went 11 PM to 11 AM EST. Once this is set, the draft will go quickly.

Just curious... what's a good time for everybody to be on here? I would like to do a lightning round where all 6 of us are on here at the same time (if possible) for like 30 minutes to a hour. If we can do that, I bet we can do several rounds in that time. Like for me, Wednesday night would be best for me at any time.

Wed night where? I'm in Sweden so I assume that's Thursday morning. Can you all do 2 AM your time?

But realistically, I check this page at least once or twice a day and EVEN THOUGH I'M GOING ON VACATION this weekend, I've already informed my girl that I need to get to a computer every now and than for the draft, so while I may have a tough time being on the same page thu-sun as you guys, I will still check it often.

By the way, her (my girlfriend's) rote memorizations are pretty good by now- she (obviously) knows about my obsession with baseball and baseball history. Here is a recent conversation for you gents:

me: I just made my first pick in the baseball draft I told you about.
    she: who'd you pick?
me: Mickey Mantle, 1956 to 1962.
she: why didn't you pick Babe Ruth? He hit 714 home runs, you know. (I am absolutely serious; I've drilled several baseball records into her Swedish head.)
    me: he was already picked.
    she: why Mickey Mouse?
    me: Mantle.
    she: why him?
me: well, he was pretty good too.
she: how many home runs did he hit?
    me: 536
she: that's not so much. Barry Bondage had more than that.
    me: Bonds.
    she: Bonds, right.
me: but I'm just picking his seven best years. He played in a tougher offensive time; it was harder to put up big numbers, but he still did. In the seasons I picked, he hit over 50 home runs twice and won the triple crown in 1956.
she: why didn't you pick...wait...um...Lou Gehrig!
me: he would be a good pick, but I wanted to sort out my center field, and Gehrig-
she: -who hit 493 home runs!
me: yes, baby, he did, but I didn't want to-
she: How many did Mickey Allen hit again?
    me: Mantle.
    she: Mantle!
    me: 536...
she: ...and he won the three crowns in 1959!
    me: 1956
    she: 1956!

I can't tell you what was next because it involves my next few picks, but I figured you might enjoy that wee discussion.

see you on the field of battle!
