Hi All,
I picked up my first pack of '09 Topps at Target today. They are slick looking cards with sharp images. They are definitely an upgrade over last year's circus look. Has anyone else bought any yet?

I got a pack at wal mart today and I like them as well. They remind me of '90s cards a bit.
Quest for 27Winners make goals, losers make excuses.
Great action shots.
I picked up 7 packs the other day. I can trade some if you guys want to trade
Here's a sampling.
Interesting. Looking at the scan, I'd say it's the best Topps design in at least a couple of years.
Topps cards of late have all looked like they were designed by a first year graphic design student. These kind of fall in that category, as well, but at least they were designed by the kid who got an "A" in design 101.
2007 and 2008 Topps were designed by the kid who got a "D" in said Design 101 class.

I agree, these cards do look very nice compared to the past 2-3 years. And I like the fact that they're not too busy and don't have the preprinted autograph on the cards. I'm also looking forward to the Topps heritage set (1960 style)![]()
"Pitchers did me a favor when they knocked me down. It made me more determined. I wouldn't let that pitcher get me out. They say you can't hit if you're on your back, but I didn't hit on my back. I got up." - Frank Robinson

Cool looking cards. I'll have to pick up a pack. I like that they don't have facsimile autos on them like the 2007 and 2008 cards. For some reason they remind me of 1999 Topps.

They are way better then last year.
they look nice...
I hope Topps does a better job this year with Randy Johnson. In the 2008 set the big stringbean is pictured hitting, not pitching. - Not exactly his classic pose!
They are better-looking than last year, so I tried a pack that looked like it might be more interesting than the others in the batch.
A bunch of crap players, no rookies, the only possibilities among regular cards were Jason Kubel & Denard Span. Technically I did get two inserts. Apparently, Topps and I have differing opinions about "Prominent" Baseball Players. I realize Christian Guzman HAS brought his OPS+ UP to 79.
The Miggy ToppsTown card was ok. Thanks but no thanks
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

My ToppsTown card code didn't work. I'd rather have an extra real card than a download card. I never undersood the whole eTopps thing.

I already traded the Smith. You can have the Stewert though. Let me know what Lance Johnson you have
...And I really like them. After the last several years of cruddy designs, I might actually try to complete set of these. I have not hand-built a set since 1991. I like the '6 degrees of Mantle' that are on the backs of some of them. I had to drive an hour to get these at a Target (I work at a Wal-mart and we still have not got them in yet).
Enough already! Let's get Quiz and Frank White into the Hall Of Fame ASAP!!! Go ROYALS!!!
My greatest fear, though, is reading the backs of the cards again this year. Two years ago I found over 300 glaring statistical and grammatical errors with the Topps base set. They definitely have a bunch of uneducated buffoons doing their proofreading over there for the company. Topps is sadly no longer the industry standard bearer.
I picked up a few commons for TTM at a card show yesterday. My two cents: The design is nice...very simple and clean. Maybe it was just the lighting at the show, but I found it to be pretty tough to read the players names...the silver foil that has each players name runs together and often doesn't jump against the backdrop (for example, the Yanks have black behind the silver and it was hard to read).
I do like the little random stats on the back along the top. For example, Humberto Sanchez has "Career ERA by classification" and Juan Miranda has "Most hits by Cuban-born Yankees" and names six players.
I can imagine that you'll find just as many this year. I used to say that "Topps is the only publically traded company run by seven year olds."
The current economic meltdown has proven me wrong, it's not the only one. But I would venture that Topps is still one of the publically traded companies that has been run by 7 year olds the LONGEST.
They seem far more concerned with "joke" cards and pop culture than decent designs and accuracy. The exception here is their Heritage and Topps '52 cards, which I like a lot. That department must be run by one of the seven year old's older brothers.
