The Braves let Glavine get away a few years back and the let Smoltz get away this year, both for being too "cheap." Any chance you Sox fans think Glavine would be welcomed in Boston with Smoltz?

Why would the Red Sox want Glavine now?
Although it would be a great story (local boy reunited with Smoltz), it's also very unlikely as it's not a great fit. He wasn't that great the past two seasons, he's coming off injury and the Sox really don't have a spot for him with Penny, Smoltz, Buc, Masterson and Bowden already in the mix.
He may not be welcomed in that he's a question mark along with Smoltz; no one knows how they're going to pitch. As it is, the Red Sox have more than enough quality starters to put in the back end of the rotation. Smoltz and Glavine are essentially rainy day insurance in my view. There just doesn't seem to be much value in the Sox throwing more money on what is essentially a gamble.
Only if Wake's injury problems turn out to be career-ending, which doesn't look likely right now but we'll know more once ST starts
If the Red Sox would take on Glavine and guarantee him 20+ starts the rest of the NL East will pay his salary.

Would Glavine consider being a lefty specialist in the bullpen?
