Who's been the MVP so far this season?

    Stats updated June 19

This is for both leagues. I've allowed for multiple decisions to make it easier for you. And I'm sorry for not including pitchers but I got too lazy. Perhaps a best pitcher poll will soon appear. So who's been the MVP so far this season:

    Garrett Anderson - 63 rbi
    Carlos Beltran - 18 sb
    Hank Blalock - .341
    Barry Bonds - .674 slg
    Carlos Delgado - 22 hr, 76 rbi, 62 runs, .659 slg
    Adam Dunn - 22 hr
    Jim Edmonds - .652 slg
    Rafael Furcal - 62 runs, 8 3b
    Nomar Garciaparra - 60 runs, 97 hits, 12 3b
    Marcus Giles - 24 2b
    Christian Guzman - 9 3b
    Todd Helton - 59 runs
    Aubrey Huff - 25 2b
    Mike Lowell - 21 hr
    Melvin Mora - .358
    Bill Mueller - 25 2b
    Corey Patterson - 7 3b
    Juan Pierre, 29 sb
    Albert Pujols - .386, 60 rbi, 62 runs, 96 hits, 25 2b, .715 slg
    Edgar Renteria - .347, 92 hits
    Dave Roberts - 22 sb
    Richie Sexson - 21 hr
    Gary Sheffield - .346, .650 slg
    Alfonso Soriano - 19 sb
    Ichiro Suzuki - .347, 99 hits, 18 sb
    Larry Walker - 7 3b
    Vernon Wells - 62 rbi, 25 2b

Definetly Delgado. His stats alone are good enough for MVP, but don't forget the Jay's are in a 3-way race for the east.

Yes we do, but since the Crew isn't doing anything, I'd rather vote for someone out of the NLC.

AL: Delgado. Earlier this season I would have said Alfonso, but since then Delgado's been way better than Soriano.

NL: Gary Sheffield or Albert Pujols. Both these guys have great stats, I dont follow the NL as much, so there might be something I dont know :P

Being a twins fan, I'm curious as to why Christian Guzman is on this list. He shouldn't be. Yes, he has 9 triples, but he's hitting .268, no homeruns, and has been caught stealing(4) more times than he has actually stolen a base(3).
If there's a candidate for MVP from the twins(which right now there really isn't) it would be Jaque Jones. He's batting .307 with 8 homers.

I didn't spend alo of time making the list. I just looked at the leader boards and figured that everyone who should be voted for are on those lists.

As much as I'd LOVE to say nomar or manny, I too have to go with delgado. he's by FAR leading in RBI's and tied for first in the majors with home runs. not to mention a rather decent avgerage and increadible slugging percentage.

To think... I was thinking earlier in the season about how over paid he was

If the season ended today, it would have to be hands down Delgato in the AL. I can't think of anyone even close. Of course, he may fade in the stretch, but he sure is have a career MVP year so far

Based on the Hank Aaron Award point system, the leaders would be Carlos Delgado in the AL and Gary Sheffield in the NL.

I don't think that Albert Pujols is getting nearly enough support on this poll. In fact, I think he has passed Delgado for me and he's got my vote now.

Based on HAA points thru June 17, Pujols is leading the NL and Delgado leads the American League. Pretty credible indicator!

Hank Aaron Award Points thru June 17:

    American League
Carlos Delgado 178; Vernon Wells 168; Garret Anderson 161

    National League:
Albert Pujols 162; Mike Lowell 161; Gary Sheffield 156

Wow. When do you think the last time the two point leaders were on the same team?

it might be a good indicator but i too have pujols over everybody else at this point...

...sure, delgado has a big lead in rbi (+16) and 3 more HRs but albert has a huge lead in average, up in hits (2Bs too), slugging and OBP, he has less walks but with many fewer strikeouts...

...maybe this indicator is a better full year tool, i don't know enough about it but pujols is a point above being ranked 5th!! that ain't right and sheff looks a little low too...

I think we should pick one MVP per league. Raw stats will differ -- AL is a higher scoring league.

Looks like Pujols hasn't reached his peak yet after last night's game.

The June 23 issue of TSN has a feature on Pujols. Author says: "Pujols is the only player ever to bat .300, hit 30 homers, knock in 100 runs and score 100 runs in each of his first two seasons..."

An insert compares first two seasons of some pretty fine hitters:
    PLAYER / Ave. / HR / RBI
    Ted Williams / .336 54 258
    Joe DiMaggio / .335 75 292
    Albert Pujols / .321 71 257
    Hank Aaron / .299 40 175
    Eddie Murray / .284 54 183

And Albert is off to a fine start in 2003. In near future he might become the first NL Triple Crown hitter since 1937!

YankeeMan! I'm truly touched. Maybe we can be friends after all.

If you think I'm gonna return the favour by saying Captain Jeter you're crazy. (though I'm not counting out Giambi.)

Anyway, Carlos in the AL, no doubt, and Poo-holes in the NL. As for Sheffield, he's great this year, but that just shows what a huge season Albert is having.

Look out for the September Blue Jay slump, which is how Carlos lost the MVP in 2000 and Olerud in 1993. McGriff also had a big September skid back in the 80's once.

So because of 2 totally different guys on the Blue jays slumped in september 10 and 20 years ago Delgado will?. Can't forget, that if Delgado wasn't putting up these numbers, Vernon Wells would be MVP of the AL right now.
