3/4 (US) 3/5 (Japan) WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC - China vs. Taiwan Pre-During-Post Game

I can't wait for this game. This is almost as interesting as the Japan-Korea game to me. I was really impressed with the performance China had against Japan, and Taiwan seems to have really struggled throughout their exhibition games and against Korea in WBC play. Any predictions? Does anyone think China can pull it off?

Im carefully assuming that there is a chance that Chinese Taipei and China might get into the 12th inning rule..just like Beijing Olympic.

we will find out in 15 hours.

Does anyone know anything about these pitchers?

Lu pitched in the NPB with the Chunichi Dragons, however I think only in ni-gun (minor league), he always pitched well against Taiwan in the past. His best pitch is his forkball.

Here is a clip of him pitching almost an entire game against Taiwan in last year's Asia Series, where he was one out away from beating Taiwan. The catcher he throw to is none other than the current China's catcher Zhang, who is affiliated with Yankees.

Lin is a fierce competitor, he started and won against SK Wyverns in last year's Asia Series, he is the closer of his team in the CPBL, but will start in emergency situations. His best pitch is his fastball.

Here is a clip of him finishing one of the game during last year's CPBL Championship Serie, where he made a throat slashing gesture that caused chaos, former MLBer Luther Hackman can be also found in the clip.

We have less than an hour until this game kicks off. It's kind of crazy that a team will be eliminated tonight as the tournament just began and 12 countries haven't played an official game yet. Hopefully we will have a close exciting game.

whoever wins, this will be sad. WBC 2009 started only 2 days ago, and other pools (B C D) didnt even start, yet, we are seeing a country getting eliminated already.

China's taking control of this game. Now 3-0 after five. Ray Chang advanced the runner in the first who put the first run on the board, just now hit the double to drive the last.

Some great effort by the CT catcher, though.

I'm really pretty shocked that China beat Taiwan. After watching the first 2 games of the tournament I kind of saw thing coming, but prior to the tournament I never saw China winning a game. Congrats to China on winning a game. I feel bad for Taiwan, I feel like they didn't bring the best team they could have. It's tough that they will have to wait 4 years to redeem themselves. It was a fun game to watch. China is a miracle from the second round.

How did China become that good?. I think there wasn't even baseball in china before the OG last year, now they beat Taiwan a country who has a big tradition and several MLB players.

Did anything change in chinese baseball or did they just get some chinese americans? Does anyone have informations?

Their professional baseball league, "China Baseball League" was established in 2002.

Taiwan is currently on a two games losing streak against their political rival.

WBC 2009 started only 2 days ago, and other pools (B C D) didnt even start, yet, we are seeing a country getting eliminated already.
Consider the travel from Tokyo to Los Angeles and get the two teams advanced time to adjust and rest, it was necessary to make the games in Asia earlier than others.

China are the sleeping giants in a lot of ways. Much of what happens there is 'behind closed doors' despite them seemingly becoming more open to 'the western world'.
There are 6 teams in the Chinese League. The original four teams were the Beijing Tigers, Tianjin Lions, Shanghai Eagles and Guangzhou Lightning. The Hope Stars and Dragons joined them in 2005. The Hope Stars are an under-21 team of promising players from around the country. In 2007, the CBL began a support relationship with Nippon Professional Baseball, Japan's baseball league. The agreement allows the Japanese clubs to send coaches and players to China and Chinese players to train at the Japanese facilities.

Here is a link to an interesting article relating to Chinese baseball

And remember in the 2006 WBC Chinese Taipei only beat China 12-3...a blowout yes but....

Beware the emerging giant. No doubt MLB scouts are very active in this country of huge population.
