Thread: Citi Field

Can't say how annoying it was to see the Yanks Museum on their pre-game show today.
Well thought out and clearly as big a priority with them as it was at getting the rest of the stadium ready for opening day.

As much as I can't stand them, you have to give them their due, they get it:
    baseball is a generational sport
it's all about heritage and history, (especially team history)
and the memories that go with them.
    It's the ties that binds.

    What do we get?
A collective pat on the head with a "there, there kids, Santa will bring you a Mets Museum soon, if you're good boys and girls."

Since it was made official at yesterday's JR-Day press conference,
that a formal exhibit at CF acknowledging 47 years of Mets history and fan loyalty
is at best "still in the works" and that it'll be "somewhere behind Centerfield",
we now know how much of a priority celebrating Mets (and METS ONLY) history is for ownership.

I suspected as much when they canceled Oldtimer's games a while back.
    That pales by comparison.

They could have given us old farts a bone, with a SHEA CLUB or a PAYSON PORCH,
but no, CF is a trip down ownership's personal memory lane.
Screw the trust and responsibility you have as owners of the NY METS and their fans.
"It's my toy, I paid for it, if I want to hang up something from my past over this team's, that's how it goes."

"Hmmm, Whiffleball field, Ebbets Club or Mets Hall Of Fame?"

"Get that wiffleball field and Ebbets done asap, we'll figure out the METS HOF later."

In the meantime, you could have given us one bone, chief:

    Oh the pain.

Did I make up the part about people complaining here about West Side Story?
Was Evan Roberts complaining about lineups not being posted early enough at Citi Field a lie of mine?

    Please, do tell.

And how many of those 47k at the second game were a forced sale via 7-pack to get a Yankee game or the last game at Shea?

The difference is that the 2nd home game last year had way less than 47,127 in the ballpark

That is tickets sold. No way 47,127 were at Shea. I went to an August game vs Atlanta. Paid $2.50 for upper box 1st row. Announced crowd was over 50,000. No way there were even 40,000 in the house.

Check out stub hub and list all of the games that prices are so much higher than Shea. I just looked at a game vs Florida 4/28, Sec 524 row 7 (where I sit for some games) and someone is asking $9. This section is even with 3B and the row has no obstructions. Nine dollars ! Please with the overpriced stuff.

I've been critical with people who bash the venue itself because lets face it, Cit Field is beautiful! That part they got right! If you don't like it go back to the parking lot and make believe you're somewhere in that DUMP they called Shea!

However I echo your sentiments in regards to the way the Wilpons and the Mets disregarded their own history!

its SO TYPICAL of the second rate mets and the Wilpons to pull that. So typical! How they don't get it is beyond me. They just continue to add new chapters into the laughter and second rate circus that the Mets always seem to be. Its ALWAYS something!

And to think that the Mets museum was REPLACED so that a Verizon Studio could be put in its place, thats just insane and just shows you these hacks for owners will do ANYTHING for a fast buck!!!

ATTENTION ROB--THE FOLLOWING POST IS ABOUT EVAN ROBERTS

Just noticed that NYS scoreboard only has the lineup of the team currently batting posted.

    Quick, someone tell Evan Roberts!

In comparison, the CF scoreboard always has both teams posted and even indicates who will lead off the next inning when the team currently in the field comes to the plate. Also, the Yankees ribbon board seems to have much less info than the one at CF. It is 90% advertising.

But of course, Evan will fail to mention all of this.

Agreed. "In the works" was disheartening.

You know, watching the start of the Yankees game today - the NYS reminds me a little of Shea Stadium. Big and almost round.

Well you can have Shea and new YS and all its roundness
We have a BALL PARK, a nice one no less.

Again my only fault has been their utter lack of respect to the Mets heritage "inside" the place

I agree about the Mets stuff, but I also think CF isn't quite finished. Forget about Mets stuff, there is no advertising in the concourses or the bathrooms. Clearly, there is stuff to be added.

NYS reminds you guys of Shea because of the crappy upper deck (where I will be sitting for the big Pavano homecoming on Sunday). To quote John Sterling, "It is high, it is far."

So WHAT if he fails to mention this? Is everything in your world NYS vs Citi?

Look, there's so much to like about Citi. Relax, and don't worry about what anyone thinks about CF, or who thinks NYS is nicer, including Evan Freakin Roberts or Joe Bagofnino

i agree that Evan Roberts is a turd But i think he was just saying that is something that was done at Shea and was surprised they didnt carry it over to the new park, as another reason to vent his dissappointment with the new scoreboards and ballpark

CF is a very nice ball park. The most attractive exterior in the majors and the interior almost as nice. I just think its funny that the life long dream of Mr. & Jr. Wilpon seems like it contains many half assed elements and makes it seem not so well thought out. The lack of Mets heritage being top on the list.

Just because people have nice memories of Shea does not mean they don't like or enjoy CF.

Tom, he was going on & on about it the other day, along with tons of other nonsensical complaints. The new scoreboards are clearly an improvement over the ones at Shea and info is all over the ribbon boards.

Shea was unique in that it had the lineups posted way before the game, very few if any ballparks have that posted. and I seriously doubt more than 5% of fans really care that that info is posted hours before the game

Do people miss that or are happy that the views from the seats are better, the food is better, the bathrooms don't flood, etc?

Its just so typical. Thank you for building this new park Fred, but can you just explain where you had this idea that 40 plus years of Mets history was only good enough or could only "fit" on the outside??

    TRAVESTY!!!

Yep. Section 3. I had a 7 pack there last year. Same game:

I only hope. They have gotten enough heat in the last few days that it will be hard for them to ignore.

The Wilpons should have made it a priority to have a Mets HOF or something of that effect ready for the fans by Opening Day. That being said why is it being made out to be something that was never planned until this "uproar" if you will? From the beginning there was always mention of a Mets museum or HOF going to put in place in the new stadium and albeit they dropped the ball with their prioritizing of it its still in the works and will come to fruition. Its not like they had no plans for it and smacked the fans in the face by leaving it out and now after some backlash are relenting and going to add it. Its always been something that they said would be included.

Could someone please tell Francesca that blind spots are inherent with multi-tiered outfield seating?
