As for the walls, I'm pleasantly surprised how well they turned out. Granted I would have done a couple things differently but overall it works. I really like that the walls are 8ft. It looks and feels more like a real baseball field.

Citi Field has become one of the ugliest ballparks in MLB. What a shame.

To me, the batters eye is the most annoying thing to look at. If they just did something like what CBP has and then cut out a row of ads on the CF scoreboard (like the original renderings) it would go a long way to improving the aesthetic.

I think they'll look a little more important there - like a hanging from the rafters vibe. Won't be able to see them from a good portion of the Promenade on the third base side, though.

I hope I'll be able to see them from section 514..
    Especially this one.

    Awwwwwwwe, you can't say that.
Citi Field is a nice ballpark..
It can't come close to holding a to NYS, but it's still a nice ballpark.

Ok fine I get it. It's called the "Party Deck" so their sponsor is Party City. But JESUS CHRIST did they have to use such a garish logo? And three of them?? (Why three??) Of course they did, it's the Mets! What other way would they've done it? One logo would've been tolerable, but three let's you know without a shred of doubt it's Party City!! Otherwise you'd never know with just one logo!

Also, they changed the location of the banners which was a good move IMO. I like the new location. But why just the banners and leave the numbers where they are?? Those numbers are being disrespected since they are basically mixed in with the whole mess of ads out there. The numbers shouldn't be treated as if they were another Budweiser or Party City ad. They should've moved them along with the banners.

Watch all the Citi Field homers jump down my throat for not praising the changes.

That's Party City's logo. Any complaints about the garishness should be directed to Party City.

YES from some of these picture it looks bad but when you're in person at the park and you have the full stadium view around you it blends in fine. When you look at these pictures you're squarely focused on one thing which is not the case when you're in person.

Hahaha - I thought the same thing! Did they sculpt bags under Mr. Met's eyes for the 2012 season to reflect a tough season ahead?

I work in advertising and design. Many companies have more than one logo for various applications. They may have a full color logo, or a black and white logo, or simply an all-white logo, all-black logo, etc... it all depends on the application. But fine, maybe Party City isn't sophisticated enough to have different versions of their logo. Fair enough. But WHY did they have to put three of them in a row? Just one would've been fine.

Perhaps the reason Citi Field garners more grief for it's aesthetics compared to NYS (and other ballparks) is because of two primary factors:
    1. CF's scoreboard construct is overlarge and overdone.
The lack of clean structural lines only adds to the visual angst and that applies to whether you're in the seating bowl or miles away on the Van Wyck.

    2. The absence of a clearly dominate team based logo. There's the massive "CITI FIELD" and then it's an attention grabbing free-for-all after that.
Even with all of the ads, the ballpark in the Bronx lets you know who's home you're in.
The iconic frieze itself does that too (as could the old Shea exterior design panels) but the Mets currently haven't anything other than their script logo.
So why diminish its impact at the team's home park?

I totally disagre with that.. Place is nice, just has some jumbled up scoreboards that could easily be fixed

You can have ur opinion and state ur case, .. I disagree with alot of all the complaining by some, but yes the ads in the place look redundant, overdone, overstated and follow no flow whatsoever.. with that said, when your sitting in yoru seat, like another poster said, you arent focused on one ad or one section of ads, you are taking in a huge overall view of the park, and that is one nice looking ballpark IMO!!!

Yes, the ads in the scoreboards are jumbled and have no design sense, but other than that, Citi Field looks fine. Calling it "one of the ugliest ballparks in MLB" is a stretch.

And the bigger picture here besides all the ad placement complaining by us all, is Im am so excited to see the 8 foot fence return like at Shea,, scaling the wall is a beautiful art form, and we lost that in the previous dimensions.. Endy Chavez catch does not happen at Citi.. It can happen again Now,,

Citi Field is far from ugly, but some of the advertisements are like having a classic center hall colonial with window shutters in 8 different colors.

Great point that a large "Mets" or whatever would be a better focal point, and not draw the eye specifically to advertising -

    Like this -

    Or even this -

Personally, I love the idea of a lit-up Mr. Met at night, shining like a beacon to nearby highways or passing airplanes. But for both, everyone would notice the Mets-centric logos, etc. instead of being drawn to a big ad right away.

And I never noticed before, but the ad signage in NYS is pretty obnoxious as well, but the massive Y A N K E E _ S T A D I U M above it all helps to diffuse it.

in my honest opinion I think the banners look fine where they are from this angle. Overall I like the blue wall and party deck as well.

Taking an industrial saw to that scoreboard and correcting the Hero Brand to Stadium Sponsor equation would cure a lot of CF's visual ills.
This, along with portals in the upper deck would silence this grey-haired fan's complaints about Citi Field's aesthetics.

The quality of play on the field is another matter entirely and one can only hope that new outfield wall will give many cause to party.

This may come as a shock to you but I actually like Citi Field overall. What I come on this board for is to critique the specifics that I think are worth criticizing... changes that could be made to improve the place. But yes, overall, this is actually a nice ballpark. When I go watch games with my friend or friends, I don't go around nitpicking every negative thing that we talk about here. I just sit back and enjoy the game!

Do you think that small fence on top of the wall will make it difficult to steal home runs? I remember Endy's glove going over the wall and reeling it back.
