I just figured the OPS+ for the candidates at third and in right ...

    Rader 122
    Petrocelli 126
    Robinson 97
    Evans 100

It appears to be a two way race between Rader and Petrocelli. I haven't looked up their defensive stats, but I know Rader is rated VG and Rico is only AV.

    Wynn 136
    Bonds 135
    Aaron 137
    Clemente 133
    White 109

Four way race here. Bonds is a EX rated fielder with a VG arm and some nice speed too. I believe Clemente is also rated EX, with either EX or VG for his throwing arm. Not sure what Wynn is rated at. I don't think Aaron is equal to these guys defensively and he certainly can't run with Bonds or Wynn either. So that would knock it down to Bonds, Wynn, and Clemente and that might be the order I put them in.

So if the playoffs started today it would be the Angels, Gold Sox, Wranglers, Legends, Gamblers, and Thunder?

That is correct. The Gold Sox would get the bye in the PAP League while the Angels and Wranglers played a best of five series, with the winner advancing to face the Gold Sox for the championship. In the Carter League, it's a lot more complex. The Legends would get a bye since they have the best record. However, there would need to be some sort of tiebreaker among the Thunder, Iron and your Gamblers. They are all at 42-27. I think the first tiebreaker is head to head record, but Mark will correct me if that's wrong. If things were ending today, the Thunder would be out in the cold since they have a losing record against both the Iron and the Gamblers. The Gamblers and Iron are 3-3 against each other, so they would have to go to the second tie breaker to see who wins the division and who gets the wild card. I think the second tie breaker is run differential, in which case the Gamblers take the title with a +86, while the Iron get the wild card with a +83.

Given how close all the races are this year, it might be a good idea to go over the tie breakers.

    Usage issues

As promised, here is a list of all players who are on course to exceed the 125% playing limit. Anyone at or over 50% falls into that category. They are all listed below. The number indicates their usage percentage as of the last DB update I got from Mark, which was yesterday and prior to last night's games. If someone is already farmed out they have an (f) after their name to indicate that.

Wranglers: Carlton Fisk, 52; Cesar Geronimo, 71; Tommy John, 54; Vicente Romo, 59
    Cloverleafs: Dusty Baker, 59
Badgers: Curt Blefary, 51; Bob Heise, 63; Milt May, 97 (f)
    Gold Sox: Johnny Callison, 55
Shoeless Joes: Chris Cannizzaro, 114; Jim Fregosi, 62; Jim Hickman, 67; Tommy McCraw, 53; Rusty Staub, 104; George Culver, 51
Skipjacks: Gates Brown, 81; Danny Cater, 66; Ed Crosby, 72; Terry Crowley, 82; Ed Goodson, 52; Frank Howard, 65; Jim Lefebvre, 110 (f); Mike Hedlund, 56; Mike McQueen, 60; Gary Peters, 80; Frank Reberger, 82; Bill Singer, 52 Looks like maybe big trouble down the road, Jason!
Knights: Bob Bailey, 51; Andy Etchebarren, 61 (f); Jim Northrup, 51; Bill Robinson, 63; Walt Williams, 74; John Hiller, 63 (f); Jim Rooker, 61; Gary Ross, 64; Diego Segui, 55; Ed Sprague, 76 (f) You can sure tell this isn't your standard Knights team!
Legends: Willie Crawford, 73; Joe Lahoud, 65; Roger Nelson, 61
Hard Cider: Gene Alley, 50; Dave Duncan, 50; Wayne Garrett, 55; Pat Kelly, 56; Mickey Stanley, 50; Ray Corbin, 64; Ray Lamb, 55; Eddie Watt, 56
Iron: Hank Aaron, 52; Dick Allen, 50; Terry Harmon, 52; Jim McAndrew, 62; Andy Messersmith, 54
Gamblers: Jose Cardenal, 50; Chris Speier, 50 I can tell Mark was devoting a lot of time to this team - usage pattern much more like a Mark Leece team would normally show.
Urracas: Chris Chambliss, 57; Cy Acosta, 85; Luis Tiant, 59
Dust Bunnies: Matty Alou, 50; Bernie Carbo, 58; Orlando Cepeda, 89; Darrell Evans, 50; Al Kaline, 97; Bill Wilson, 103
Spikes: Billy Conigliaro, 84 (f); Cleon Jones, 50; Ted Kubiak, 60; Joe Lis, 51; Joe Lovitto, 76; Monty Montgomery, 92 (f)
Angels: Rod Carew, 53; Norm Cash, 52; Roberto Clemente, 72; Cocl Laboy, 88 (f); Richie Scheinblum, 55; Dock Ellis, 75; Bill Hands, 56; Milt Pappas, 52
Thunder: Ted Sizemore, 51; Reggie Smith, 50; Grant Jackson, 66; Steve Kline, 54

--Players may play up to 125% of their real life playing time. If you allow a player to go over that limit not only are they ineligible for further player, including the post season, but you lose a 3rd round draft pick. If you allow a second player to go over the limit that gets bumped to a first rounder.

--Lew is correct on the tie breaker. The tie breaker has only been used to settle who is the division winner or wild card or who gets home field. If it is a matter of one team making the playoffs and another not I think we'd want to settle it on the field ..

So as it stands now, there would be a special one game playoff between the Thunder and the Iron?

Since I see a few people online, is anybody willing trade? I'm looking for a solid starting pitcher to help my chances of contending. Is willing to trade any starter but Woodson and Briles and CF Bobby Darwin.

Alas, efforts on the trading front do not go well...

Doubtful given his economical contract and coming good years...what did you have in mind?

Well, I need to know his contract information before I could know what to offer for him. (It really would be nice if you could post that stuff on the roster page.) I'm assuming he was drafted in '68, so you have him through '73, and he is making 250K this year? If so then'72 is his only really good year under contract, and he seems like he'd be someone you might want to trade, since you probably aren't making a playoff run this year.

weird...I did post that two weeks ago..I amended it though ...at any rate, I will post that to the roster thread tonite...

I went to the '68 draft thread and saw that Baker was taken then at a salary of 500K. So if he hasn't played until this season then he is still making 500K. Ist that correct?

Correct...I honstly don't imagine I will be interested in moving him though.

I don't understand why not. You only have him through next season. He's pretty good in '73, but nothing special. '72 is his big year, but he isn't going to help you win.

ok...let me explain..I have had one long friggin day..a not so good day...so, I don't really need to be lectured to about what I need to do or not to do in order to win or lose because in the end it matters not one bit in the big picture of life. This has occurred on more than one occassion so let's just say we agree to disagree about knowledge of this particular SIM game...that being said I'll consider a reasobnable offer if you are still interested....ball is in your court....sorry to be so terse but given my day it is what it is...no hard feelings...hope I haven't caused any.

Well, I have to say that was pretty needless since this message was sent to you via personal messaging...and I can assure you that will pretty well negate any further trade diwscussions between the Hard Cider and the Leafs...no hard feelings...to each his own...and by the way, Dusty Baker just went on sale for any other owners interested in acquiring his services.

I'd say that you being an ass about trades is something that affects the whole league, so why not let the whole league know about it?

    A very angry post #2100

I know I am new to this, and I don't have much room to talk but come on guys! It's a game! Jterry, you shouldn't have taken out your problems from your day out on him and Mac, you shouldn't of exploited the private (need I emphasize on private) messages that were sent back and forth. So with that being said, you are both a fault. No one is right in this situation. You both need to grow up and move on and continue with the game so we can all have fun. The youngest person that is a part of this is giving two grown man a talk about growing up. Pathetic.

    back to Baseball

--The Gamblers sweep the Skipjacks while the Iron get swept by the Badgers - allowing the Gamblers to reclaim the division lead. The Gold Sox and Legends each extend their lead by 1 and the Wranglers hold steady.

Solid debut by Dick Woodson. Complete game 1 run ball, nothing more you could ask for.

Actually, come to think of it, Baker's salary should be $1 million this year after doubling in '70.
