You are looking at the thousand-mile stare of Wooster, Ohio's Dean Chance. Good one. Your turn.

Steve Sparks. The innings eater of the '01 Tigers. The starting pitcher of my first visit to Comerica Park.

I've taken way too much time to post a follow-up guess, but then so has everybody else.

I'd like to double down on the likelihood that the man in question is Dave (I'd like to buy a vowel) Mlicki.

once again... a fine guess... but still not correct....
    Time for a hint.

This Tiger was a first round pick, but not in the American League.

I'm absolutely sure it's not this "Scherzer? Hello? lol" of which you speak. I've not come across any Tiger anywhere whose name included punctuation of any kind, but I like the idea.

a box score could look like this

    ab r h bi
    A Jackson cf 5 0 1 0
    J Damon dh 4 1 1 0
    R Rayburn lf 4 0 0 0
    ! Cabrera 1b 2 0 2 3 ...............and so on and so forth.

A guy like A! Ka!ine could easily incorporate something like that into his signature.

I still have no idea who this Tiger is. I've used up my allowance of guesses.

I have a game from July of 1972 in which Paul Jata plays first base against the Orioles.

Correct, sir. I was so proud once of an '87 Topps Traded Mike Henneman rookie that I had him autograph for me. Not a clue where it ended up. Probably someone's attic.
