Marichal was probably slightly better than Gibson through the bulk of their careers- his unfortunate arm "injury" ruined the last 3rd of his career. If it weren't for that, he might be a top 10 candidate.

Let me nominate Phil Niekro and John Clarkson at the bottom of the ballot. Carlton, Niekro, or Perry? That is the question. Tim Keefe is on the board and he should not automatically gain support as the only early pitcher under consideration.

or Marichal might have been suspended a year for crowning catcher John Roseboro with his bat. I didn't understand why that was just part of the game.

Well, that was an indefensible action by Marichal. I remember listening to that game on a Sunday afternoon. I was a huge Dodger/Koufax fan. I wanted Marichal to be suspended for a month- I think he got 5 or 6 games.

However, it was just one in a series of lamentable actions by ballplayers. Was it any worse than Roger Clemens throwing- in my opinion with intent to hit- the jagged broken bat at Mike Piazza?

With no suspension, no removal from game, not even a warning from the umpires?
