Thread: It's Official: UFL To Play At Citi Field

  1. It's Official: UFL To Play At Citi Field

    From UFL Access:

Contrary to the press release from earlier, UFL Access has learned exclusively today that the New York Sentinels will indeed play one game at CitiField.

News Director Nation Hahn moments ago learned courtesy of UFL PR representative Rachel Gary that a deal was reached with CitiField just minutes before today’s press conference in New York announcing the Sentinels franchise. The game will be scheduled for November 4th, with CitiField acting as the primary venue and Hofstra slated as the backup.

This should please fans from the New York area who wanted their football in a major venue in New York. More as we get it.

Don't tell me Vince McMahon started a new football league. The XFL only lasted 1 season, but it was good that it went under, cause then Vince McMahon bought WCW. Anyway........................

why would they need a backup place? What's gonna happen at Citi Field on Nov. 4th that theyre gonna be forced to play at Hofstra?

This is all under the assumption that they even start this season at all. It's a brilliant business plan to play what is basically minor league football during the NFL season. Add in horrible TV coverage, terrible team names, generic uniforms, and a bad economy and you have a recipe for disaster. All these announcements this week are very last minute

According to that report, they're only playing one game there, and it'll be in November. plenty of time to fix the field before the 2010 baseball season.

Point taken, although I don't see how waiting until after the NFL season ended did the XFL any favors. I think the thinking for the UFL is that they will play games during the week so not to directly compete with college or NFL ball. Of course, that also means they would be playing on workdays, but whatever.

And I know I'm in a minority, but I sort of like the name Orlando Tuskers (referring to wild boars, which used to frequent Central Florida in great numbers before Walt Disney came and turned the place into sprawlish tourist central). Or at the very least, its a hell of a lot more original than the generically obnoxious "Orlando Rage".

**On edit, I have just recieved word that it will actually be the "Florida Tuskers" and that they will play one of their home games at Tropicana Field, helped in part by the Tampa Bay Rays part ownership in the team.

  15. Bush league....clear(and awful) attempt at a money grab...CRAPOLA...

$800MM to have the UFL call our stadium home.

    Awful.

(With that said if I know myself I'll wind up going, just to 'get a fix'...man, I'm a sellout)

  16. Jesus Christmas. The Jets are playing in East Rutherford, have a new stadium in a year, and draw well there. Why would they want to move into a smaller, quirky BALLPARK? I don't understand. Maybe we should try to get the Vikings to play at Target.

    In some relating news.

Rays owner bought the Florida UFL team, they will play their home games at Tropicana Field. Might as well be an arena football game.

Is a pass that hits off the facing of the Pepsi Porch and into the hands of the receiver in play?

Imagine if they'd had a ground rule like that back when the Lions played at Tiger Stadium?

I've heard how field goals & extra points would bounce off the facing of the upper deck in left field. Wish I could've seen just one Lions game there...

  21. I hope UFL succeeds. They dont have a HORRIBLE coverage like some make it out to be...Versus, a lot of people get, a lot of hockey fans tune in to them. HDNet, as long as you have HD TV and have Comcast and Dish Network or Direct TV you should probably get it.

Its a decent coverage for a league thats just starting.

I'd like to go. Be interesting to take pictures of the Citi Field stadium in a football configuration.

I'm really upset that the arena football league went out of business. I really liked it. It was way better than the NFL. And tickets were only like $10. I really wantred to go to a game, but I don't drive. Whenever I stare out at something, I get double vision, so that basically prevents me from driving.

I'm a hockey fan, so I know Vs. is there. Most people do not and the NHL's ratings are lower than they used to be on ESPN. Vs. is buried on most cable system lineups. Time Warner NYC is about to move Vs. HD from being amongst all the other HD channels to being with other fringe sports networks.

HDNet? We don't even get that anymore and most people who do have to pay extra for it anyway.

As bad as the XFL was, at least it was on NBC.
