ASMI recommends an annual shutdown or 2-3 months (4 preferable) from all overhand throwing.
I posted a few weeks ago, asking if my son should take a break from pitching after LL All-Stars. Based on the feedback I decided to tell my son's travel team coach that my son won't be available to pitch until November (a 3 month break.) In the last month since All-Stars ended my son hasn't even thrown hard. When I hit him ground balls he throws the ball back at around 50% just to return the ball and to practice the transition from fielding to throwing. Anyway, would it be beneficial/harmful to take my son out for long toss once a week. I don't want this to become a debate on whether long toss is beneficial in general. I believe it is. My question is whether starting a weekly long toss program would defeat the whole purpose of taking the 3 month break from pitching. (Note: his team will start practicing/playing within the next couple weeks, so he will be throwing in practice as well.)
