Thread: Our Mets Hall of Fame, election 31

  1. Our Mets Hall of Fame, election 31

Please limit your ballot to a maximum of 15 names.

This is the thirty-first election for Our Mets Hall of Fame. Last time, we elected nobody.

For the original rules and specifications for this Hall of Fame, see:

    http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=83894

    New, additional rules:

When voting, consider the player’s Mets career only. If you choose to vote “none of the above,” you must explain your decision or your vote will not count.

It is not necessary that you explain your other votes, however it is still encouraged that you do so.

I feel forced to note that the Veteran's Committee is a VALID election process, as a player IS eligible past 15 elections, if they meet certain criteria.

  2. Some quick notes:

    1) I have reinstituted Bruce Boisclair, Dock Ellis and Dale Murray after I egregiously took them off the ballot prematurely many elections ago.

    2) I have put Frank Viola back on the ballot, I forgot to include him in election 30.

    3) Mackey Sasser was actually dropped following election 29, but I didn't note it. So I am noting it now.

  3. My votes:

Last time, I said I probably wasn't going to be as generous in my voting. I spoke the truth...I voted for 15 people last time, but only voted for 10 this time.

    Neil Allen
Bobby Bonilla - awful personality, but put up good enough offensive statistics to get a vote
    Lenny Dykstra
    John Franco
    Terry Leach
    Dave Magadan
    Roger McDowell
    Kevin McReynolds
    Randy Myers
    Bob Ojeda

    Players I'm no longer supporting:

Rick Aguilera - never really played enough. He never started more than 20 games or made more than 36 appearances in a season.

Hubie Brooks - OPS+ of 92 when with the Mets. Not that great offensively.

Todd Hundley - he spent nine seasons with the Mets but had only three that I would call respectable/good: 1995, 1996 and 1997. For a guy that spent that long with the Mets, it is my opinion that he would need more than just three solid seasons to make him OMHOF worthy.

Doug Sisk - numbers only tell half the story here. His numbers as a Met look good, but he seemed to cause a nail biter when he came into games. He had 210 walks and only 163 strikeouts as a Met...for a reliever, that is terrible.

Tim Teufel - too inconsistent from year to year.

  4. meh, other than Franco who I don't like its all one hit wonders. Probably soon I'll be back to voting for everyone that had a good year or two but for not I'm not.

  5. What a weak pool, even with the large amount of newcomers.

    Brooks & Glynn. Thats it.

Funny that you're giving up on Brooks Cowtipper. Independently, I reached the same conclusion after my last vote. This is his last shot for me.

No explanations this time around. Just a little emphasis.

    Hubie Brooks
    Len Dykstra
    John Franco
Ed Glynn ...(I keep my promises)
    Roger McDowell
    Kevin McReynolds
    Randy Myers
    Put it in the books.

I'm beginning to feel really guilty about missing #29.

    Put it in the books.

Imho,Al Weis should be in the Mets Hall Of Fame.
None of the newcomers even come close to deserving it more than Weis.
Ed Glynn is much more enticing to vote for than these newcomers.
    That is imho.

Btw,I think it's great that you used an analogy from "The Hangover."
I used two of them myself from "The Hangover" from two previous threads.
First,I said the best thing about Sean Green pitching at Citi Field is the
cool song from "The Hangover" during the Vegas casino scene that they play
while he's warming up but once he throws a pitch that's one pitch too many.
Second, when Mike Marshall was on the Mets Hall Of Fame ballot I wanted to
know which Mike Marshall did they mean? Was it the pitcher who played for
the Mets in 1981 or was it the outfielder who played for the Mets in 1990?
So then I mentioned as Zach Galifianakis said in the movie "The Hangover"
"Classic Mixup." That was one of the funniest movies I have seen in years.
On the ballot it could have easily been either Mike Marshall.Teammates of
both players were actually on the same ballot. In closing,I would just like to
add to this "Kramden's Delicious Marshall."

Well, don't worry, the eight of you on the "veterans committee" will just put in who you want irrespective of our opinion and vote.

Clue for those who have none:

Would you like to be a member of Our Mets Hall of Fame Veteran's Committee? To become one, you must have participated in the regular OMHOF balloting for 10 consecutive ballots you must have voted in 15 ballots total with consecutive votes not necessary to be an OMHOFVC voting member. You will be eligible to start voting in the next VC election, which will be concurrent to election 35 (and, overlap with election 36 by a few days, if a second round is necessary). *All current members are grandfathered into the VC and do not have to fit these qualifications.
    Put it in the books.

I found out about this late. But thanks for the heads up in case I wasn't aware.

I haven't voted in ten straight yet nor fifteen overall. I will probably hit fifteen ballots around the time Ty Wigginton comes on the ballot.

    Hehe, Wigginton.

Well, I don't make the rules, so don't hold me to this, but I have a feeling that because you're a regular here in the Metsies forum, if you were to ask Cowtipper -- and again, I can't speak for him -- I have a feeling he'd put you on the VC.

*Turns to Cowtipper*... Feel free to correct me if I'm stepping outta line here, mang.

  17. He only needs to vote in two more elections to make it ten straight. Since he's that close, I'm going to necessitate that he go the full 10.

I wasn't going to ask for special treatment because:

    1. I was afraid if my request for special treatment was granted ReyesofHope's Mr. Met head would explode and I love Mr. Met too much for that to happen and

    2. I really wasn't sure what I could bring to the table of the Vets committee. I "notoriously" did not support one of your selectee's and I haven't seen that many/any pass through after 15 elections that I thought, "boy, everybody made a mistake letting him slip this far".

Thanks for your support Milladrive and (Cowtipper...two more elections seems about right.)

I graciously defer to your judgement, good sir.

    LOL

    ...and

That's precisely what I mean when I say I like your fresh (and refreshing) insights. And I too can relate to your latter sentiment (Garrett and Ryan, for just two examples).

Thanks for your support Milladrive and (Cowtipper...two more elections seems about right.)
    Quite welcome.
    Put it in the books.
