If you could get only one F/A in the offseason who would you want

If you were the GM of the Mets, and had a shot of only one F/A who would you want. In a NY minute I'd want Carl Crawford, and here's why:
    1) He's a winning ballplayer. Been a part of the Devil Rays/Rays young nucleus since 2002.
    2) Can steal you a bag when you need it. Consistently a threat for 40-50 + steals a year.
    3) Tremendous pop. Has averaged 25+ doubles, double digit triples, and double digit homers since his 1st full year in 2003.
    4) Good clubhouse guy, great attitude, from what I hear. Never had an off the field incident I'm aware of.
    5) IMHO would be ideal in the 2 hole behind Reyes. You put a lineup of Reyes, Crawford, Wright, Beltran, maybe Francouer in the 5th hole. You immediately are up there with Philly, Cards, and the Dodgers as solid productive lineups.
    6) The Mets could then recycle all the Wagner jersey's they have in mothballs at the Citi Field concession stands, and resell them as Crawford jerseys. Anyway the Wilpons look at it, a hundred bucks, is a hundred bucks. Gotta get back some of the Madoff dough somehow. However just my 2 cents.

    LETS GO METS !!!

I would take Matt Holiday if I had to choose 1 player. Why? We have a gaping hole at cleanup with Delgado gone (presumably)

    OR

John Lackey to take the #2 spot in the rotation.

I would love to get Crawford BUT he isn't a free agent. The Rays have a club option that they will definitely pick up

Of the available FA's I'd pick Holliday, although he's going to cost a lot more than he's worth. I wouldn't count on the Mets landing any big ticket free agents this winter.

I would resign the job and give it to Brian Cashman.

Or....I would trade every player on the Mets roster for every player on the Marlins roster and save the team approximately $110 million.

The Mets are not one free agent away from anything. They are not two or three free agents away either.

I would rather start over, personally, from the bottom up.

I wouldn't sign any type A guys at all. I would look to trade for a number 2 pitcher and maybe try a one year FA deal with Bedard or Sheets. I'd also try to trade for a guy like Ben Zobrist. He plays all over the place and could play left next year and then move to 2b when Castillo's contract is up.

Crawford is outstanding and could be a FA, but the Rays have an option on his contract they will likely pick up.
