He's been playing with 9/10u since he ws 5? How and why? Has he not stayed with the same group of kids? Or did you put your tball team in 9/10u from the get go?

Adrian has played 9U/10U kid pitch travel ball since he was 5. Has never played kid pitch rec ball. He's played on several teams as he has had to change teams when a team he has been on has aged up to 11U.

Adrian is currently 8U age and has played with the 9U Carolina Kudzu out of Columbia, S.C., since last fall. They play mostly 10U. Adrian will be able to stay with the Kudzu as long as he wishes and as long as they wish to have him as he is to the point where he will be able to advance with them to 11U when that time comes in the fall of 2013. They are really a talented bunch of boys. They're playing in the 10U Global World Series in Myrtle Beach July 7-11 and the 9U Elite 32 at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando Aug. 5-11.

Adrian's path in the game, playing for so many different teams, is not for every child. But he has had a wonderful experience to this point, and his passion for the game continues to grow. But I certainly recommend doing what you and your child are comfortable with.

Also, I want to make it clear here that our family is in no way delusional. We are very grounded in the game and are fully aware that what a child is doing today might or might not be what a child is doing tomorrow, next month, next year, five years from now, 10 years from now, etc.

Adrian, like any other child, will be fortunate if he can even play high school baseball. We firmly believe that you have to be born with the ability to play professional baseball, and the players who get to the major leagues get there on innate ability and how much work they put in to hone that innate ability. If you're not born with it, you'll not get there no matter how much work you put in, and if you're born with it, you won't get there without working your butt off to hone it. There are no shortcuts to professional baseball. Every player who ever gets paid to play has been born with the ability to get there and has put in the work to get there. Some have more ability and put in more work than others -- Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, for recent examples -- but they've all put in more work than most.

So, that said, we are just a family who loves baseball. Adrian is off to a great start in the game, nothing more, nothing less. And as long as Adrian wants to play, we're going to give him the opportunity to do so and enjoy the journey as long as it lasts, wherever it ends.
