If I may, a brief comment about Bid McPhee,
Perhaps the last man to play without a fielder's glove, and upon using one, he set a Fldg Pct record, that stood for about 20 years.
Besides being a truly great defender, he hit above average, as attested by his career OPS + of 106, and stole over 500 bases.
Something of a Bill Mazerowski at 2B, who could also hit and run well.

With all due respect, I don't consider someone with an OPS+ of 106 to be a player who hits "well".

We now have a quorum on both sides of the ballot.

Perhaps you are correct, I should have said "an above average hitter" rather than use the term "well", as one's perception of the meaning, will deem it proper or not.

Bid was certainly a much better hitter than Bill Maz, who had a career OPS + of 84.
Bid also has a better career OPS +, which of course is NOT the only way to evaluate a hitter, than a few others who may have been considered to have hit fairly well,
Johnny Damon, Joe Carter, Matty Alou, Garret Anderson, Wally Pipp, Carl Crawford, and Travis Jackson, are among many, who have a lower figure, than the truly outstanding defensive 2B, Bid McPhee.

In 1960, we won't add any new contributors, but will add the following players:

    Code:
    Brown , Willard
    Case , George
    Cooper , Walker
    Gordon , Joe
    Roe , Preacher
    Trout , Dizzy
Two HOFers in Brown and Gordon, though I have my doubts either will contend immediately.

We've still got two voters from last election yet to vote in this one, Henrich and Paul Wendt. If I don't hear from one or both of them by Monday, I'll send a follow up PM.

No big deal to me. When I look at a statistic that is 6% better than average at the highest level of competition, words like "good", "nice" and "well" come to mind. Nothing more superlative than that though.

I would point out that in terms of pure batting average, McPhee was a slightly below average MLB hitter.

I might contribute to this remarkable project tonight or tomorrow but the forum is certain to be flooded with news bulletins on the Hall of Fame prospects for various Phillies and Yankees. Instead I'll just go with the flow and post a few of those.

Is Luke Easter ineligible or do you have a birthdate other than 1915?

I don't think I had anyone suggest Luke (or give him a vote in another project). I've seen the case made for him, and it's certainly as good as or better than many others on the master list. I'll add him.
