Ditto. Best Wishes, Stan. I hope you're still going strong at 89!
Not a Card fan here to boost one of our own.
Yankee fan, but how could anyone not be a Stan Musial fan.
One of the greatest to ever play the game and on top of that, the guy was all class, on and off the field.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STAN.
Ditto. Best Wishes, Stan. I hope you're still going strong at 89!
I had the privilege of seeing/hearing/reading about the last 10 years of Stan's remarkable career. I saw him play several times at Forbes Field in the late 50s/early 60s.
I think few younger fans realize the enormous esteem Musial was held in while he played. At the time of his retirement the jury was split on whether he or Honus Wagner was the greatest player in National League history. At the time Musial probably was considered to be a greater player than Ted Williams, due to the well-roundedness of his game. Musial was a good fielder and an outstanding baserunner throughout most of his career, as well as being one of the greatest hitters ever.
Here's to Donora's greatest- Stan the Man.
Last I saw him he threw out the first pitch at Game 5 of the 2006 World Series vs the Tigers. I was in the bleachers with my son.... HUGE ROAR for Stan The Man. "No way the Cards are losing with Stan The Man here!" said my son, then 11.
Giants fans shouted encouragement, Dodgers fans prayed. Branca kicked and fired, Thomson hit it hard. Hodges shouted as Pafko stood helpless..... And Sister Helen Rita caught the ball.
