Thread: Squash the Bug

  1. Squash the Bug

Why are so many people "Squash the Bug" phobic? Although I agree that this is not the principle that should be taught to more advanced hitters, for young beginners, it is a very useful concept to get the point across as far as getting the hips through is concerned. With beginning youngsters, the more concrete the better, and this principle works very well. JMHO

I have found that explaining what the hips need to do is enough (e.g swing with the hips, point the bellybutton at the target).

You don't need to teach squishing the bug for a kid to do this.

  4. Any given cue any given day. Having said that, you can do the watusi bug squish without ever moving the pelvis one degree.

    Possible, but difficult.

Let's just say that my meager attempts to use this cue has resulted in failure after failure.

Front hip rarely moves. Rear gets frozen midstream.

I now just tell folks to "fire" their front hip. They all get it.
