    Why are hitters "better"?

Bein’s how yesterday was Thanksgiving, so most everyone should be in a kindly mood, thought I’d ask another one of those goofy questions I dream up when there’s not enough baseball being played to keep my mind occupied. Although this could be asked about pitching, fielding, or running, since almost all of the current talk is about hitting, I’ll ask it in that light,

How much is all this wonderful knowledge and coaching actually improving the game in general and hitters in particular? While there’s little doubt hitters today are in general betters than hitters of earlier times, how much of that is because of technique(teaching the ML swing), and how much is because of things like better nutrition, better health, improved workout techniques, etc.?

I liken what’s happened in baseball to what’s happened in golf. For all the improvements in golf, and all the claims made, the scores are virtually the same as they’ve always been, and it seems to be the same in baseball.

All of the above that you mentioned. As for the golf comment the reason the scores dont go lower is because they are making the courses longer every year.

P.S. Say a prayer for Tiger Wood and his family. He was just in a car crash and it sounds bad.

Well, while golf courses in general have gotten somewhat longer, golf equipment has progressed to amazing heights. When 60YO golfers can hit the ball farther and straighter than Sam Snead or Jack Nicklaus in their prime, it doesn’t matter how long the make the course.
