    Game Four

The Braves score first when Chipper Jones and Gary Sheffield hit back to back doubles in the 4th inning, but the Yankees counter with a solo run in the 6th and Derek Jeter's clutch home run in the 7th to give the Yanks a 2-1 lead. Dwight Gooden had been masterful through 7 innings, but Matt Franco got a pinch hit single to lead off the 8th, then Rafael Furcal connected for a 1-11 home run chance but settled for a double. Gooden then got Julio Franco to roll a fielder's chance to RF Paul O'Neill and the result was a double scoring two runs. Chipper Jones singled Julio Franco home and the Braves send out John Smoltz for his first series appearance in the 9th. A 1 out single by Derek Jeter brings the tieing run to the plate but Smoltz retires both Paul O'Neill and Bernie Williams, evening the series at 2 games apiece.

Top performances so far in my tournament, teams / individuals / great games etc

    1. Game 4: 2005 White Sox - 2008 Cubs
Cubs lead series 3-0 and have shut out the White Sox in 24 consecutive innings. Trailing 4-0 in the 9th and now having been shut out for 32 consecutive innings, the White Sox rally for three runs and are close to tieing the game before Kerry Wood saves it for the Cubs completing the sweep.

    2. Game 5: 2007 Red Sox - 2003 Braves.
Josh Beckett K's 12 Braves in his clinching shutout victory

    3. Game 3: 2001 A's - 2006 Cardinals
With the series tied 1-1, the Cards score twice in the top of the 12th on two solo homers to take a 5-3 lead, but Jason Giambi's walk-off grand slam sends the A's home a 7-5 winner

    4. Game 1: 2001 Diamondabacks - 2007 Indians
Game goes 14 innings before Indians pull out 5-3 victory. Randy Johnson struck out 13 in just 7 IP

    5. Game 5 2003 Marlins - 2008 Angels.
Marlins get just 2 hits but clinch series with 2-1 victory.

    6. Game 1 2000 Mets - 2008 Rays.
Mike Hampton K's 15 rays in 8-1 win, the 15 K's my second most ever in 41 years of gaming. Hampton follows that up with a shutout in game 5.

    7. Game 6 2000 Mets - 2008 Rays.
Trying to force a game 7, the Rays lead the Mets 7-4 in the 9th and send in closer Troy Percival, The Mets get 3 rolls in 4 batters of 5-5 - a straight home run on Percival's card to score 4 times and lead 8-7, which holds up as the final score

    8. Game 4: 2002 A's - 2004 Cards
The Cards score a run in the top of the 12th to take a 3-2 lead but with 2 outs and a runner on, Eric Chavez hits a walk off homer to win the game 4-3.

    9. Games 4-5: 2002 Braves - 2000 Yankees
Down in the series 2-1, and losing in the eighth inning 2-1, the Braves rally for 3 runs to even a series they will win. The Braves do almost the same thing the next night, scoring 3 times in the 8th to overcome a 4-3 deficit.

    10. Game 1 2009 Phillies - 2006 Tigers
Cliff Lee, (who K's 13) and Jeremy Bonderman match scoreless innings until the bottom of the 9th when a throwing error scores an unearned run for the Phillies

    Game Four

The Phils close out the Tigers with a solid 4-2 victory to sweep the series. Jimmy Rollins was 1-14 going into his last at bats when he got two hits. J.A Happ was the complete game winner. The Phillies "sister" team, the 2008 world champions blew a 3-1 series lead in the first series in the tournament, these Phillies took care of business.

    Game Four
In a marathon game going 12 innings and featuring 28 hits, 4 errors, three double switches and 10 pitchers, the Angels outlasted the Diamondbacks to even the series with a 8-6 win. The Angles led 4-1 after 5, but a huge rally by the Dbacks netted 5 runs in the 6th. Single runs in the 7th and 8th tied the game. Pitcher Mike Koplove's error opened the gates in the 12th inning when David Eckstein and Adam Kennedy followed Jose Molina's two out double with run scoring singles. Garrett Anderson had a home run and 3 doubles for the Angels but only his home run figured in the scoring.

    Game Five
The Angels beat Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks 6-3 to take a 3-2 series lead. Johnson only allowed 3 hits in 6 IP, but a two run home run by Darren Erstad gave the Angels 2 runs, a triple by Adam Kennedy gave the Angels another run and Kennedy scored on Junior Spivey's error to account for a 4th run. The Diamondbacks rallied to make it 4-3 on Damian Miller's 8th inning home run but Troy Glaus' 2 run ninth inning shot was the final nail. In a bit of an oddity, the visiting team has won all 5 games so far.

    Game Six
In another 12 inning nail biter, the Diamondbacks prevail 3-2 to send the series to the 7th game, only the second of 14 series to make it this far. Curt Schilling gave up a triple (near HR) to Tim Salmon to lead off the 4th and he scored an out later on Brad Fullmer's sac fly. Ramon Ortiz had a no-hitter through 5 2/3 until Junior Spivey laced a single. An inning later two hits and a Steve Finley sac fly tied the game, and in the 8th David Eckstein's 2 base error led to the Dbacks taking the lead on an unearned run. An error by Erubiel Durazo led to an Angels unearned run in the bottom of the 8th. Tied 1-1 in the 12th, yet another error by a pitcher this series led to an unearned run for the Dbacks when Damien Miller barely beat a throw home on Junior Spivey's double and Byung-Hyun Kim closed out the Angels in the bottom of the 12th.

The Angels get a triple, a double, and a home run in the bottom of the first and ride the 3 run inning to a 4-2 Game 7 victory. David Eckstein led the game off with a double and scored an out later on Garret
Anderson's double. One batter later Troy Glaus rocketed a home run for an early 3-0 lead. Solo home runs by Matt Williams in the third and Luis Gonzalez in the 6th narrowed the score to 3-2 after 6.

The Dbacks loaded the bases with 2 outs in th e7th but reliever Brendan Donnelly got Erubio Durazo to ground out in the biggest confrontation in the series. The Angels got an insurance run in the 7th when Anderson hit yet another double scoring Adam Kennedy from first. Troy Percival closed out the series with 2 K's and a grounder. Game 7 was the only one won by the home team.

next up the 2004 Red Sox and 2003 Giants

    Game One
In of my best pitching duels ever, both starting pitchers, Curt Schilling of Boston and the Giants Jason Schmidt allow just 2 hits apiece. Schilling has 6 K's and no walks, while Schmidt had 12 K's after 6 IP, but he only gets one K in the 7th and 8th and doesn't get a chance to pitch the 9th as Johnny Damon's 2 out 6th inning solo home run is the difference.

    Game Two
In a slight reversal from game 1, the Giants outslug the Red Sox 14-7 to take game 2. Pedro Martinez walked the first three Giants of the game leading to 2 first inning runs, then the Giants started crushing the ball. Benito Santiago had a solo home run and Barry Bonds a 3 run blast in the second, and JT Snow added a grand slam in the third. Later, Andres Galarraga hit a two run home run in the 8th and a few batters later Rich Aurilia hit a 2 run triple. 8 walks and 2 red Sox errors added to the Giants cause. The Red Sox actually came back from a 10-0 third inning deficit to make it 10-6 before the Giants 4 run 8th put the game out of reach.

    GAME TWO
