    Ha, beat this.

Went to a Phils game with my girlfriend last year. They had Philadelphia Athletics caps there. Royal blue with a white A. I said to my girlfriend "Oh look they have Athletic's caps" as I picked it off the rack. An employee said "It's a Phillies hat." I said "It has the Athletics A on it." She said "All our hats are Philadelphia Phillies hats sir. We don't carry other teams merchandise. Please return it to the rack if you aren't going to buy it." It was said in a very condescending tone too. Really ticked me off.

That was an unfortunate experience, bluesky, especially since, as I'm sure you know, the only other name the Phillies' franchise ever went by was Quakers. Imo, that employee should be fired, not only for his/her attitude, but also for not having even the simplest knowledge about the franchise. Granted, there have been four different Athletics franchises in Philadelphia, but none were related to the current franchise, whose first season was 1883. And the Phillies have spent every season in the National League. Just for the record, aside from the current Oakland franchise, there was a Philadelphia Athletics in the National Association and National League, 1871-1876, one in the American Association, 1882-1890, and one in the Players League and American Association, 1890-1891.

Anyway, as for the topic, I've lost count of how many times people see me in my Brooklyn cap -- which is undeniably and unmistakenly a Brooklyn Dodgers cap -- and ask if I'm a Red Sox fan. Living in the NYC area, it's always been easy for me to just say, "It's Brooklyn, not Boston," and the people are appeased. ...as if I need to defend something. My second-favorite current team is indeed the Red Sox, and I do have a modern Boston cap, but I seldom wear it. On the other hand, I wear my Brooklyn cap way more than any of the caps I own of three other teams. In fact, I have two more unworn Brooklyn caps as backup.

Heh, I must admit, I tend to cringe when someone can't tell the difference between blue and white, and red and black. After all, it's a white B and blue cap for goodness sake!

    Put it in the books.

I think it just goes to show how confusing the current trend of marketing off-color-designed team garb can be. I mean, if one can buy a green Yankees cap with a purple logo, the color-design marketing has gone too far. Jmho.

I would have requested to speak to the manager IMMEDIATELY.

There are blue and white Red Sox caps too. They're not quite the same, but enough to make it confusing to the average baseball fan.

They were "renamed" the Blue Jays at one point in the 1940's. '44-'45 I think? They had a Blue Jay on the sleeve. But "Phillies" remained on the front of the jersey.

I actually have a Brooklyn Dodgers cap. I never wear it. I got it in high school just to say I had one.

The Red Sox wore a green hat with a green jersey after Red Auerbach died.
