you think any of these twins fans would ever put up to pay for a roof? minnesotas would never do such a thing. This is a big part of why I cannot stomach the complaints coming from the people in the dakotas, or even outstate minnesota, or fans like me who had to move away. dont complain about the park not having a roof if you arent even helping pay for it.

Heres the simple solution in my eyes. MLB should just STOP having games scheduled to start off April in cities like Chicago, Boston, NY, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Colorado, and in 2 years to be Minnesota. Wait a week or 2, its that simple!

Take for instance the Yankees and Blue Jays, or the Orioles and D Rays? WHY would they not play the game in SkyDome where its covered? Granted yesterday was just rain, but you still have a good threat of snow in late March and April. Same goes for Baltimore, did the series have to be in Baltimore and not in Tampa?? Then play the home openers in places like California, Florida, Atlanta, Texas, etc.
So you have the home openers in the north 2 weeks later, BIG DEAL!

You don't think that the fans and owners, possibly even the players, wouldn't be upset by the fact that they would never have an opening day at their home stadium? I know I sure would be. It's tough to find a sporting event with more anticipation and excitement than Opening Day and to only let fans of a handful of teams experience that is extremely unfair. MLB will never adopt this policy. It was 68 degrees and sunny in Philadelphia last year for Opening Day...unfortunately you just can't schedule a baseball season around something as unpredictable as the weather.

Well no there is no way to predict something as unpredictable as the weather, and I see where you're coming from about the fans being upset. But you don't think its a little silly to have for example a game in Wrigley Field Chicago on March 31st (a city known for its bad weather) when you can have a series indoors up the road against those Brewers they're playing right now? Right there was a prime example of how you can possibly lessen the odds that a game will be snowed out or just being too cold to play in.

Who knows what runs through the minds of the schedule makers?

The Texas Rangers have started on the road 7 of the past 8 seasons. Last night, they played in 30 something degree weather in Seattle. If that game had been in Texas, they could have played in the 70s...

No one in Cleveland last year was complaining when they had to move a game to the wimpy confines of Miller Park. Tell me how the climate in those cities, plus Boston, New York, and Philly are differen't. They aren't! Please Twins head offices, don't succomb to the whiny pansies who want a roof. That Metrodump has turned some of us Minnesota sports fans into such wimps! Far as I'm concerened, if a new Vikings's stadium is ever approved, ditch the roof for that aswell! Let the whiny "football fans" beg Glenn Tayler to get an AFL team at Target Center!

End of my rant on why some people can be such backboneless cowards!
With the HERC plant right behind the main grandstand, it would be very difficult, and very expensive to add a roof later on. And even if it did have a roof, this ballpark wouldn't have complete central heating.

Yeah, I can see the point in that argument for sure, but as a fan I would be upset if my team always started the season on the road. I also think it would be unfair for the fact that generally teams play better at home than on the road, so to have the same 15 teams starting at home to start the year could be seen as a competitive advantage.

    Land O' Lakes Field?

Stickandballguy.com found that the domains for www.landolakesfield.com and www.landolakespark.com have been purchased by the Twins. It's not a done deal yet, but if the Twins go with the most natural sounding corporate name, I'll be pretty happy.

I think its cool that they have the name already picked out suppossedly! As for the roof, didn't the meadowsland football field have the same issues, where people were demanding a roof and they said even if we gave you one, it wouldn't have central ac and heat? I don't think they need a roof in minnesota, but thats me.

Part of me thinks it's too good to be true. I've always feared that the Twins will name it after a financial company like the majority of corporate sponsored ballparks. It's sad that there's no chance it will be called Killebrew Field or Puckett Park. I do believe that Land O' Lakes Field would be the best corporate named ballpark in the Majors, along with Citi Field, Busch, Coors, & Miller.

I agree, and take it to the extreme - it's silly to have your sport's opener in places like Rogers, Miller Park and the Trop with Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field and Camden Yards sitting empty.

The Twins have picked Delaware North (a.k.a. SportService) to be the vendor for the new stadium.

From: The Pioneer Press - "Look for Delaware North soon to be named concessionaire for the Twins' new ballpark, scheduled to open in 2010. Delaware North is concessionaire for Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Miller Park in Milwaukee, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Progressive Field in Cleveland, Comerica Park in Detroit and Petco Park in San Diego."

What do you think about the Twins choice??

I really liked the basic concessions at Miller Park & Petco Park so this has to be an upgrade compared to the Metrodome. Apparently the Twins have also named their bars in the new park. The restaurant/bar in the left field building will be called 'The 573 Bar' after Harmon Killebrew's homerun total, and the other bar will simply be called 'Twins Pub.'

I just saw this on Rick's site. Great work rrjusa. This puts the Citi Field logo to shame.

I'm not sure if it's the font of Land & Lakes or the lack of color, but the logo looks a bit too dated to me. You did a great job, I just don't think it goes with the look of the new ballpark.

That's the Land O Lakes font, they would probably use that.

Besides the color, what would you do differently?

    I love the logo!

It is assinine to open the season in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Boston, Cleveland, Pittsburgh or any non-domed northern stadium. The fans do not care if game 1 of the season is a home game or not. The home opener sells out whether it is game 1 or game 10. You are up north, you don't have a dome, it's April 1 and it is still snowing in parts of Michigan. I love the Tigers, but they should NEVER have a home opener until April 10th. This is also a function of a baseball season that is too long. The baseball season is nearly one month longer than it was in the 50's and previous, with so many playoffs and a 162 game season.

I think there should be more Sunday doubleheaders, that would make the season more compact.

I like the logo except for the font used for "Field". Great idea putting the Twins Twin Cities logo in the middle though.

i like your post. i agree with your idea about double headers too. A lot of people on this board want there to be even more playoffs, but this just makes the season way too long, which might work for the southern teams, but youre really hurting seven or eight teams and their fans.

This is a sport steeped in tradition, yet you want to play in traditionless cities and stale indoor atmospheres on Opening Day, the most traditional of all baseball days?

    I agree about the doubleheaders.
